Currently.....December

Outside my window...

Outside my window it is nighttime. There is the 'first-quarter' moon shining brightly along with beau-coup stars. It is clear and 39* here. We haven't really had much in the way of winter weather yet. Hope I am not jinxing us by saying that. How's the weather where you are?

Pondering..

Sometimes I just do too much pondering. I have been pondering blog posts for much of the fall. Just never found my way to the computer to type them out. Cannot believe that it was really August the last time I blogged. Although I was getting frequent reminders from one of my biggest supporters via telephone calls. He said it is how he knows I am doing okay. LOL! Calling works too!! Anyway, I hope to be back into the blogging mood. I still have lots to say.

Watching...

Right this very moment I am watching You Tube videos of people decorating for Christmas. I am not in the mood to decorate and I am hoping this will help. I have also watched my favorite fall shows: This Is Us, New Amsterdam, A Million Little Things, Grey's Anatomy, How To Get Away with Murder. And throw in some reality TV: Dancing With the Stars, 90-Day Fiance, Unexpected, and Pillow Talk. Sounds like all I do is watch TV. I am a political junkie as well so I watched the Impeachment Inquiry hearings and yelled at the TV. Just impeach the crook and get it over with. LOL!

Reading...

My reading has really become more listening than reading. I love my Audible app. And most of what I listen to are freebies. I am currently listening to the final book in the Morgan Dane series by Melinda Leigh, Save Your Breath. I'm ready to dive into something new. My online book club will be reading The Testaments, by Margaret Atwood, which is the sequel to The Handmaid's Tale. I haven't read the Handmaid's Tale so I will use my credit to listen to it first. Have any of you read it? Is it any good? Sounds like it might be a bit out of my comfort zone. But I will see how it goes.

 Creating...

I have done very little in the way of creating anything. So I have nothing to say here.

Learning...

One thing I keep learning over and over and over is that grief never ends. You never stop missing someone who has left you behind. Not a day goes by that I don't think about Richard (it has been over 5 years now) and not a week goes by that I don't cry about him. He was the center of my life for so many years and the life I have now will NEVER be the same. This time of the year was a favorite for him so I am sure there will be lots of memories and tears in his honor.

Planning....

We are planning a wedding. Harley and Isaiah are getting married in June. She has chosen a beautiful outdoor venue. Here is a sneak peek at the wedding dress. Lots of planning yet to do. They bought a house this summer and are paying for the wedding themselves so we will see how that goes. I can tell you there have already been a few 'mom-daughter' disagreements on how we think things should be. LOL! But it's her day, so she will have her way. As it should In the be.

 Drinking....

I am really not trying much new in the drinking area of my life. LOL! Two cups of coffee with French Vanilla cream everyday. And the rest of the day is water. Occasionally I will have a cup of hot apple cider or hot cocoa with Bailey's Irish cream and a marshmallow.

What's in the kitchen...

In the kitchen right now is lots of leftovers. I had 6 for Thanksgiving. A small group. But I cooked a 24 pound turkey. Here is why. I order my groceries from Clicklist. (Love it still) I ordered a 12 pound Butterball turkey. They sent me a text saying they were out and would a Kroger turkey be okay. I said sure. A turkey is a turkey is a turkey. Right? Anyway when I got there to pick up my groceries they were out of that size. So they gave me FREE OF CHARGE a 24 pound turkey. How could I say 'no'. I made everyone take home leftovers. (I ordered prep containers from Amazon and they were the perfect 'take home' dishes). But I still have turkey left. So I've eaten turkey leftovers everyday. Tomorrow I am making some turkey soup and that should be the end of that free turkey. Did you all have a nice Thanksgiving??

A quote to share...

Photographing..

Here is little Charlie Jaxson, the love of my life. He is about the only thing I photograph anymore. I never thought I would become one of 'those' people but I have. I am madly in love with him. I worry about him all the time. He is doing well and has certainly developed a little personality. It took a few months for him to get comfortable with me and show me who he really is. He likes for everything to be according to his schedule and of course, I oblige him. I cook chicken and beef for him to add to his kibble. I buy clothes for him so he will be warm when we wander out. He doesn't really like to walk that much but I make him get out at least once a day. He likes to sit in my bay window and bark at the world. He likes to play with his little doggies....I throw them he hides them and then barks for me to come find him and do it all again. Yep, I am definitely a crazy dog mom.

A final thought...

I've missed you all so much. I am going to start making the rounds of all of your blogs and try to catch up with what you have been up to. So until the next time..............

  1. I love This Is Us, New Amsterdam, A Million Little Things, and all the Chicago shows.

I've been in a reading/blogging slump for a while and I'm hoping I'll snap out of it in the new year.

I agree with you about grief. It will be 4 years Jan. 22 since my husband passed away and I miss him every day.

The sneak peak of the wedding dress is beautiful and I can't wait to see the whole dress!

We're still eating leftover turkey too, and tonight we had turkey and vegetable soup. It was really good.

    Charlie Jaxson is adorable!

    I've missed your posts!

    1. I always have a plan. And my plans always go awry! Isn't that just life? I did not know we were 'grief' buddies. Keeping you in my thoughts! It is hard, isn't it?

  2. Charlie Jaxson is adorable! Go ahead and be a crazy dog mom! I was one when we had our dog, LOL. They are good companions! I can't believe the time is coming for Harley's wedding! What you showed of the dress, it looks beautiful! Gosh it just seems like yesterday she was moving out and now she has bought a house and is getting married! She "adulted" quite well! I am in Fry's a lot and I see the workers getting together the ClickList orders. I think its a brilliant idea for them and other stores to do. Saves people a lot of time! They opened a new Fry's in downtown Phoenix and I'm sure ClickList is going to be very popular. As a working mom, I would use a service like that to get my groceries rather than have to at the end of a workday make it to the store for dinner things. I've started watching sermons from pastors I like on YouTube. Before when I was cleaning, I'd listen to Pandora but then I thought sermons are a great way to learn more so lets do that for a bit. I haven't heard of any of those books. I'm going to check them out to see if my digital library carries them.

Do post more! I do enjoy keeping up with what is going on in your life. I don't think anyone ever stops grieving those they love especially around special holidays, etc. I can't imagine grieving a hubby, especially one so good as Richard was!

    1. Will you ever get another dog, Betty? If I hadn't gotten Charlie so quickly after Bailey died I don't think I wold have ever gotten another one. I am so glad I did. He has been my little 'lifesaver'. Ha! Ha! I don't know if I would call what Harley is doing as 'adulting', but she is trying. I think it is more like trying to show me she can do it without me. They are taking on a lot of debt so early in their lives together, but that seems to be how the youth of today do it. They feel like they need everything their parents have RIGHT NOW instead of working and saving for it. But life will teach them the lessons they need to know, right? Yes, Richard was a good husband and I don't think I will ever quit missing him. Good to chat with you again. You have had some major changes in your life too. I think I am all caught up on your blog now.

  3. Nice to see you back in the blogosphere. I haven't blogged in ages and not because I have nothing to say. I have lots to say but some of it just makes me so angry. And afraid of where our country, and the world, is heading. IMPEACH!

    1. I know exactly what you mean Denise. I just cannot believe there are people in our world who think there is anything good about the man. Yes, the economy is better (nothing changed for me, however) but I don't know that a great economy is worth the other prices we have paid.

  4. Soooo glad to hear from you. Loved the pictures of your pooch! What a cutie. I, too, have slipped some from blogging but can't quite let go. I blog a full blog post now about once a month. I don't know that I will ever blog every day again, but I think once a month or maybe twice a month is about right for me now. Hope you keep you hand in the game as well, friend.

  5. What an exciting season! Love the 'sneak-peek' at Harley's gown. I may be WAY off-base, but it looks delightfully old-fashioned. So happy knowing Charlie Jaxson is bringing you such joy!

  8. One thing I love to do with Thanksgiving leftovers is make a stir-fry with the turkey. Haven't had enough leftovers in the last couple years to do it, but it's the dream...

Glad to see you again. It's been a while. I know how one can get out of the mood of blogging (I've done it with writing). I hope to see you around more.

  12. I think we all have ups and downs with blogging. I haven't been blogging as much as I'd like. It must be exciting having a wedding to look forward to and your dog is so cute. I'm sure he's helping to fill the void of your empty nest. I enjoyed The Handmaid's Tale but it is quite a scary concept. Good luck with both books. Wow good thing your oven was big enough for the turkey but what a nice freebie!

    1. I don't know if I would call it exciting. I'll personally be glad when it's over. It brings out the worst in some. LOL Yes the oven was big enough and the leftovers were plentiful.

  13. I have missed sharing your days and life with you. The dress is gorgeous. And Charlie is adorable. Always love seeing his cute little face. I hope that you have an awesome Christmas and feel Richard's presence with you. Today is the anniversary of my brother taking his life....having a difficult morning. Love you.
