Pondering..

I'm pondering whether or not to replace my goldfish. The one I have had for the past few years died last week. RIP Goldie 2! I spent the weekend cleaning the aquarium. There is still a Plecostomus living in a log inside the aquarium. I enjoy the fish! They are calming to watch. So I might make a trip to Walmart and get a couple small ones. I like the goldfish because they like cold water and I don't have to run a heater in the tank. That is why I'm not so into tropicals. It's just such a balancing situation.

Reading...

I'm reading/listening to In Pieces by Sally Field and enjoying it. She had a tough childhood, like so many of us did. I am still planning to get back to Ghosted by Rosie Walsh.

Creating...

I am creating a home for this little guy. He belonged to my brother Fred and his wife. They have had him since he was a baby, 12 years ago. You will remember my brother died in 2017 and his wife died in August. This little guy went to live with their grandson but that did not work out for a couple of reasons. (Mainly because they have a feisty dog and a even more feisty son) So Meet Beetle Bailey. We call him Bailey. He's very timid and shy. He has never walked on a leash, so we are learning how to do that. He is used to a doggie door but I do not have one (or a fenced yard). But I have a lot of love to give him. So we will work on all the other issues. I think he is getting used to living here. We take little walks 3 times a day. He's old and so am I; so we break them down into little walks.

Beetle Bailey and the stuffed dog Fred bought me when I was wanting a little Yorkie!

Learning...

I have been learning all about Yorkies. Yesterday I gave him a bath. He didn't much like me for awhile afterwards. But he is okay today. I will probably have him groomed every few months and maintain him in between. This is the first in-door dog I have had in more than 40 years. So there is a learning curve here. LOL!

What's in the kitchen...

Today I am making Spicy Shrimp Pasta for my dinner. It is a Blue Apron dinner. On Saturday Justin and Paige came over and we went out to eat at Olive Garden. I made Justin a Shepherd's Pie to take home with him.

A quote to share...

A final thought...

Today, we are wishing this guy a very happy birthday. 43 years young! I love you Justin!

  1. Thank you for sharing those photos. Where I live there is very little seasonal color change.

We had two 55 gal. fish tanks for many years, and a few smaller ones. One of the big ones was saltwater and was a pain to clean but we loved it. We still have a few tanks but no fish.

    Bailey is adorable!!!

    Happy Birthday to Justin!

  2. O.M.G., Paula ... Bailey is too cute for words. I'm so happy you've taken him into your home and your heart. Your bed, too … yes?

I've always liked Sally Field, but didn't realize she'd written a book; will have to look into it.

    Happy Birthday to Justin!

    1. No, he doesn't sleep with me! He's very timid. Sometimes stays behind the chair all day. I hope he comes out of his shell a bit more. Thanks for the happy birthday!

    2. Oh Paula, this breaks my heart. Poor little guy sounds traumatized … with good reason. Does he have his own little furry blanket? (Our girls LOVE theirs.) Or, perhaps an oversize teddy bear to snuggle? Please keep us updated? Hugs!

    3. I think that it is mostly normal behavior for him to be behind the chair. They kept his bed behind my brother's recliner. He is venturing out more and now sleeping in Richard's recliner at night. Years ago my brother bought me a small stuffed Yorkie and this is now Bailey's best friend. I also have an old tee shirt that belonged to my sister-in-law that he currently sleeps with. I think he will adjust soon to a new home.

Good for you for taking in Bailey.

  5. Oh, you have such a kind heart. Bailey needs a quiet understanding home now that he is 12. We have an old cat, and are trying to determine if we would get another pet after he is gone. If we do, it will be an older dog that needs a home. No one seems to want the older dogs and cats. Give Bailey time. This is still new to him and he has had so many losses. And change is hard when you are older. We all know that. He might become less shy when he realizes you are now his 'forever home.'

    1. I really didn't want an older dog either, but this is how things worked out. Bailey needed a stable home and I needed a companion. I wish he walked a bit faster LOL! And yes, change is hard!!

  6. I used to keep tropical fish. Then one day the heater went haywire and all the fish died. I took it as a sign and decided I'd had enough. They are a lot of work. And so is a dog. Good for you for taking Bailey.

    1. Fish are not really a lot of work. Well, mine haven't been. And the good work with Bailey is what I need to get off my butt!

  7. Happy birthday to your son and congrats to you on taking that sweet dog in to your home. Two things worth celebrating for sure ! Bailey needed a quieter place to live and you can provide that for him. It sounds like it would be an adjustment for both of you, but I hope it works out.

  9. Pretty color around you. We've not seen much here yet, but have had frost now and colder temps, so maybe we'll get some yet. I think the pretty red bush is a burning bush? They get a very pretty red. Good luck with the dog. Sounds like both you and he have changes to adjust to. 3 little walks a day is probably better health wise than one long one. Haven't had a fish since I was a kid, but I do remember reading it suppose to be calming to watch fish swim. They had a rather large tank, probably tropical..at my GYN's office back in the day. Guess they thought it would help all the PG ladies.

  10. Happy Birthday Justin! What a cute dog to have as a companion and friend! I'm sure before long it will feel like you have always had Bailey living with you. That's kind of hard for a 12 year old dog to adjust to new surroundings so I can see why the first match with the feisty dog and feisty son wouldn't have been all that good of a one. Gorgeous fall leaves, something we rarely (never) see here in Phoenix. I hard about that book by Sally Fields that in a way she was glad that Burt Reynolds wouldn't be able to read it; I guess its not super flattering for him with the time they spent together. I'm not sure there are many dogs that really enjoy baths :)

  17. Sweet Bailey - so lucky to have you as his human! Our dog is not fond of baths either but all dogs need them once in a while. He'll get over it quickly with all that love and attention you're giving him!
