This book is the February selection for the on-line book club I am part of. This is a coming of age book that is set in the 1970's and 1980's in Virginia. The main character of the book is 'Rocky' who adores his older brother Paul. The song Only Love Can Break Your Heart is Paul's favorite song. Paul is 9 years older than Rocky and they have different mothers. Paul is a bit of a 'bad boy' who smokes, drinks, and eventually abandons his brother and doesn't come back home for years. The family that lives across the street from Rocky and his family are very wealthy and Rocky's 'old man' (his dad) seems to covet their lifestyle. There are many dramatic connections between the two families. I liked the story. It held my interest. I loved the characters. Even the ones I didn't like. I would give this book *** a good story.
Next, I listened to The Buried Book .This book deals with a mother abandoning her 9
year old son Jasper with only a change of clothes and his Bible. She leaves him with her brother. Jasper is desperate to find his mother which leads him on an escapade that will uncover some dark secrets in the world of murder, gambling, Indians and scandal. This book takes place in the 1950's. I really liked it. I loved most of the characters. Even the stern Uncle. I will also give this book *** as a good story.

What books are you into right now??
Listening to books puts me to sleep. And my mind wanders. I think it is cause I am a visual learner. I am reading Sand and Ash but it took quite awhile for it go get going.
ReplyDeleteIt takes concentration on my part to not let my mind wander. Which I think is good practice. I set an alarm so the book stops after a certain period of time. Then I don't have to look too hard to find where I fell asleep.
DeleteYou've been busy. I've just finished "All the Light we Cannot See" which I really enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteNo, not very busy. The gout thing had me laid up in the recliner so I just listened to books.
DeleteInteresting selection of books!
ReplyDeleteThey were all good!
DeleteYou have been listening to a lot of books. That's so cool. I bet you get loads done while listening.
ReplyDeleteHardly anything go done. LOL
DeleteAgain, I've fallen into a rut. So stressed these days, I'm at a loss to 'let go' of the reins. Of these you've highlighted, "Say You're Sorry" sounds the most intriguing.
ReplyDeleteIt was a good book. Chill out girl. All will iron itself out. (that being said by the biggest worrier and control freak ever)
DeleteThe first Brennan Manning book I ever read was The Signature of Jesus. But I have read All is Grace, too.
ReplyDeleteI'll check that out Susan!
DeleteInteresting selection of books. You sure are plowing through a lot a books in a short time.
ReplyDeleteIt helps that I've been so lazy!
DeleteAll those books sound good.
ReplyDeleteThey were!
DeleteSounds like you have found some great reads here. I will take a look again when my queue shortens a bit.
ReplyDeleteHaha! It never will Wendy!
