Outside my window...
Thank God! When I look outside my window I see the sun is shining and it is 79*. No rain. My heart goes out to Texas and the horrors from Hurricane Harvey. Seeing the pictures on CNN and MSNBC are heartbreaking. My prayers this week are with Texas.
Pondering..
I'm pondering upon the kind of flooding that is being seen in Texas. Did anyone see the picture of the nursing home where the residents were sitting waist deep in water waiting to be rescued? So sad! I do not live in a flood zone. It would take a lot of rain (and I mean a lot) to cause my house to flood like that. But I ask myself today: Would I be ready to deal with the likes of what Houston is dealing with?
Watching...
Today I am watching reports from Texas! There are amazing stories of struggle and of rescue.
Reading...
I'm starting new reading this week. I finished my last books. I have already reviewed Belong to Me and I will review Drawn in my August favorites post. I have started reading The Railway Man's Wife by Ashley Hay and I have begun listening to The Prettiest One by James Hankins (my new favorite author).
Learning...
This past week was a hard one. I will not elaborate here. But I had to learn to dig deep with patience, understanding, and many, many prayers to get me through the ordeal. Learning to let go is hard sometimes. Learning to ask for help is even harder.
Planning....
I'm beginning to plan for September. It is almost upon us. We have the Kansas State Fair here in Hutchinson during September. I may plan to take a day and wander around the grounds. I've never done that by myself but I think it will be a good time for me to venture out.
Drinking....
This past week I stuck with drinking lots of lemon and grapefruit (essential oils) water. Yummy!
What's in the kitchen...
Monday...leftovers
Tuesday...Oven fried chicken
Wednesday...Heading to dinner with Justin
Thursday...Mushroom meatballs on noodles
Friday...Salad
Saturday...Taco Spaghetti
Sunday...Green Bean Soup

A final thought...
Shouldn't we be thankful all the time? Thankful that we are not in Texas. That we are not having to wade through waist deep water to reach a shelter. Thankful for those first responders who are helping, with little sleep. Thankful for the troops that are being sent to help. Say a prayer today for those who are needing it!
And to end on a high note click here. This is a clip shown on a Wichita TV station this weekend. All about sunflowers. Harley is there!!! Plus the sunset picture right after her picture is also taken by Heather!
Paula, I am grateful every second that I am not in Texas and praying for all who are. Brings back memories of Superstorm Sandy and the sorrow it brought New York.
ReplyDeleteI'm thankful for living in the Midwest! We only have tornadoes to worry about! Lord!
DeleteI think the Texas officials relied too heavily on divine intervention. There should have been safety measures in effect. Had they been for naught, so much the better. Easier to move the people first than rescue them later.
ReplyDeleteIt would have been nearly impossible to evacuate that many people out of the city!
DeleteI hope all is well with you. Sounds like something intense is happening.
ReplyDeleteI too, am thankful I'm not in Texas.
Thank you Kwiz. All is better!
DeleteThat quote is quietly powerful, isn't it?
ReplyDeletePrayers for whatever is ailing your heart. God knows the details.
PS - And of course, praying for and cheering for all those in Texas.
Yes, God does know the details. LOL I've been on my knees to him all week!
DeleteSo sorry you had a rough week. Yeah, what's happening in Houston is scary.
ReplyDeleteIt just doesn't seem to be getting any better in Houston!
DeleteHarley's picture is great! I was afraid I wouldn't recognize her but I did :) All great ones of sunflowers! Neat the TV station does that. Sorry about the tough/rough week. Letting go can be so hard! Hoping for a better one this week.
ReplyDeletebetty
The week is better. Thank you!
DeleteI like the quote about obstacles, truly life is full of them. I learn ever so slowly how to live any way! I went to our fair this past week and enjoyed it all. I didn't go by myself, though. May this week be a much better one for you !
ReplyDeleteYes obstacles are definitely in our paths all the time!
DeleteDitto your thoughts about Texas! Sorry you had a tough week and hope things are better now. Sunflowers are one of my sister's favorite flower.
ReplyDeleteBTW: I have never heard of Green Bean Soup so I had to look it up. Seems there are a few different versions, they all look good.
DeleteVicki! My husband made the green bean soup. We used to eat it at a German Restaurant near us. He dissected the soup one night while we were there and made his own version. Consists of ham, potatoes, green beans all cooked together and then thick whipping cream added right to the water after it is all boiled together. Delicious. We eat it with crusty sour dough bread.
DeleteSunflowers is Harley's favorite flower too!
DeleteWe are getting lots of rain here in Virginia... But as I said this morning...we are fine - we are not in a flood - it is just a bit of rain for us.. and it makes me pause to be grateful! I keep thinking about all the logistics...pet food, baby food, food for adults and kids, diapers, bathrooms...water.... and on and on and on! Overwhelming...

I know! I cannot even imagine having to try to take care of all those people!
DeleteThank you for the prayers for Texas. I am so proud of my state and how we band together. I am personally safe but many friends and friends of friends have been greatly impacted. Its so sad and scary.
ReplyDeleteI need to know more about the mushroom meatballs. That sounds good
It's just frozen meatballs with a sauce I make with cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, milk, nutmeg, and parsley flakes. Then I serve them over hot noodles. Really, really good!
DeleteTaco spaghetti? That's a new one to me. Sounds intriguing. And wow! what a beautiful sunflower photo of Harley! Thanks for the link! Fun. Loved all the images. What's not to love about a sunflower field?!! And...isn't your obstacle quote the truth!!! I hope you enjoy your venture out to the fair!
ReplyDeletehttps://life-in-the-lofthouse.com/taco-spaghetti/ That is the link for the Taco Spaghetti! I haven't made it yet but everything that lady makes is yummy!
DeleteHarvey is out of here, finally. Lucked out and only got " of flood water in the yard twice. Better than the 42" last August 2016
ReplyDeleteLove that photo of the bright eyed beauty in the sunflower patch. Good photo Harley
7"
DeleteGlad you only got 7 inches. But twice! Heather took the sunflower pictures. Good aren't they?
DeleteHello Paula Kaye,
ReplyDeleteIt's been so long since I've been by to say hello. I was reading one of my old blog posts ( https://harvestlanecottage.blogspot.com/2015/10/my-day-book-october-5-2015.html ), and your comment prompted me to come by and see you again.
The news of Harvey's destruction and the folks enduring this tragedy is beyond horrible. We had the Joplin tornado six years ago, so I know a bit about mass destruction and the chaos that ensues, but I cannot imagine destruction on the kind of magnitude that Texas and Louisiana are dealing with. I pray for them a lot. We'll be able to make a donation that our church is sending to help.
I am glad to find you again after all this time. I grew up in Topeka, but I do not remember going to the state fair in Hutchinson. There used to be a big fair in Topeka that I remembered as the state fair, but I must be mistaken.
I hope you have a lovely week.

Hi Laura! Good to see you. I don't know how long the State Fair has been in Hutchinson but for a long, long time for sure!
DeleteI hope that whatever had you worried is now passed and had a good outcome. I think you will enjoy The Prettiest One as much as Hankin's other novels.
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying it right now! No the worry is not past but I am trying to give it to God! Thank you Wendy!!
