The Woman in Cabin 10-A Book Review

It probably doesn't come as a surprise to you that I spent this holiday from Harley (if that is what it was) reading. One of my favorite past times. And I haven't gotten to do much of it. For one reason or another. So here is my review on another book. Sorry if you don't like these kinds of blog posts!

The Woman in Cabin 10, by Ruth Ware, came very highly recommended  by my friend Christopher Alan at You Tube. And I was not disappointed. This author also wrote In a Dark, Dark Wood which I read earlier this year. I did like Cabin 10 better.

The story starts out with Lo Blacklock, the main character, being inside her London apartment when someone breaks in while she is in the apartment. The horror of this follows her as she boards a luxury, small cruise ship on its maiden voyage. She hears what she thinks is a woman being thrown over board, from the cabin next door. Cabin 10. She had earlier knocked on that door and borrowed a mascara from the woman inside the cabin. (Who does that?? I would never borrow mascara. Would you?) She tries to find out who the woman is but no one believes there was a woman in the cabin, as it is now empty. The remainder of the book deals with her trying to uncover the crime. A good mystery. I enjoyed it very much. This is my kind of book.

I give this book ****.

  1. I just saw this book in a Target yesterday. (I was there buying something not book related.) I heard it was good.

  2. I enjoy reading book reviews Paula and this sounds a good book although I agree with you, who borrows mascara - especially from a stranger!

  3. So if no one believes there was woman in the cabin, was she a stowaway? How did she get on the ship? And you are right! Who borrows makeup?

    1. No she was not a stowaway. She was very much a planned guest. But she wasn't supposed to be discovered by anyone!

    2. Ok. Now you've peaked my interest.

  4. I'm so glad you liked it, Paula! ('Never would've thought about borrowing mascara from a stranger.)

The only thing that kept me from giving it 4 stars -- you're gonna laugh -- is, when she boards the yacht and the supposedly well-heeled young hostess says, "Can I get you a glass of champagne?" (I don't know, CAN you?) OK, I'll step off the soapbox now.

Say, If you're looking for something light, funny - and thoroughly summer enjoyable -- check out my friend Susan's book, "Hot Flashes and Cold Lemonade."

  5. Sounds like a good book and I bet it will be made into a movie down the road. Can't remember if you read/reviewed Girl on the Train, but we finally saw the movie on July 4th. I love to read; spend a lot of time daily doing so; relaxing and also keeps my mind off problems :)

    1. It does help with keep mind off problems. It seems the older the girl gets the bigger the problems

  6. Thanks for the review, Paula. Reminds me a bit of the movie Flightplan starring Jodie Foster. Very suspenseful!

I too would never ever borrow mascara. Most unhygienic!

  7. I love reading your book reviews! After reading this one, I want to know what happened to the woman. Yuck, I'd never borrow make-up or a hairbrush from someone else.

  10. I love a good mystery! I'd say I'm adding this to my list, but I don't keep an accurate list, my kindle isn't working, I live in China (hard to find English actual books) and... I'll probably forget the title. :-(

But if I see it - I'm on it!
