Bounding Into September Life List

LOOKING OUT MY WINDOW....

Today, in Kansas, the sun is shining. It is 84 degrees. No wind. A beautiful day for sure.

AS I PONDER....

I am pondering if I am ever going to get rid of this cough. Two nights ago it kept me awake all night. Yesterday I started taking saline aerosol treatments to see if I can break up the mucus and stop coughing!!! Truly think it is allergies. Was better and then I mowed the grass and stirred up the dust!

WHAT I AM LEARNING...

I'm learning that things feel a bit different with only one kiddo in school. I am going to start a chore list for Darian. He works, on the average, three days a week. We should be able to knock out this list before he leaves. That is, if I can get to feeling better. But the biggest thing I am learning is if I don't want to do something, I don't have to do it. There is always tomorrow!

WHAT I 'M CREATING...

I haven't created much recently!

WHAT I'M READING....

I finished The Great Gatsby yesterday and started reading a mystery based on a girl trying to become an Olympian gymnast, You Will Know Me, by Megan Abbott. I am loving it, so far. I will post my review of The Great Gatsby sometime later this week.

WHAT I'M WATCHING...

To all of my Big Brothers fans out there. How are you liking this week's HOH. I am so disappointed in how Nicole is NOT running her own game this week. VOTE PAUL OUT OF THE HOUSE! Also, watched the final episode last night of Return to Amish.

WHAT'S ON MY CAMERA...

Harley's new glasses

a rare picture of Darian

Completed Bierocks

Hawthorne trimmings

rising bierocks

WHAT I'M enjoying right now....

It has been so long since I have enjoyed a box of Cracker Jack. Do you remember Cracker Jack from your youth?? These were super delicious. But the prize inside was a joke. I remember the days of good Cracker Jack prizes. This box had a sticker!! Oh well we know the "good old days" are gone.

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE KITCHEN...

Monday... Beef and noodles

Tuesday...Million Dollar Casserole

Wednesday..Chicken salad on apple slices, Soup

Thursday...Taco Bell Mexican Pizzas

Friday...Shepherd's Pie Loaded Potatoes

Saturday...Corn Chip Salad

Sunday...White Bean & Chicken Chili

A QUOTE I WANT TO SHARE...

LOOKING FORWARD....

Happenings in my backyard...

Standing in the dining room this morning, looking into the backyard, I spotted a big, yellow cat quietly sitting in the bushes. Not moving even an eyelid. Just sitting and watching. I did not see anything else in yard. I couldn't tell what she was watching. But she sat there for the longest time. Never moved! Just watched. And suddenly, she was gone. I didn't see her move. She was just gone! Strange.

A peek into my week...

Monday...Harley went out of town for a FCCLA conference yesterday and will return home today. Darian is working from 10-7p.
  Tuesday...Darian works 10-7p
Wednesday...Harley has youth group at church Darian is working out with Army guys
Thursday...Darian works out with Marine guys
  Friday...Darian is working 11-4p.
Saturday...We are going on a picnic!!
  Sunday...Darian is working 10-7p.

A final thought...

Then end of one season always makes me think about 'starting fresh' again. Cleaning, organizing, hauling off the old and making more room in my life. That is how I feel about spring. And that is how I feel about fall. So let's get started.....

  1. I'm sorry to read that you are coughing again. It's exhausting! I feel for you. I use a Netti Pot when I need to. When ai first heard about them, ai thought it was odd, but then zi rmembered that when I was quite young, my GP had me do something similar with salt water. I hope this turns around for you quickly. Your Friday menu item made me smile. I have never heard of Shepherd's Pie Loaded Potatoes, but they sound AWESOME and I'm not even surprised that someone came up with that. FYI: I found your lost comment!!, It was in my SPAM. Not sure why, but there it was. And guess what? There was another lost comment from you there, too. It was from a while back. I approved it and replied, but the recent lost comment I just deleted because you had gotten through on your second try. I don't check my SPAM very often because ai haven't had any.I don't watch BB much, but GN likes it, so when she has it on, I can hear it. I'm ready to see Paul go. Not sure what a million dollar casserole is, but around here, we would have to call it a hotdish! ;-) I will google it and find out what you're cooking! GN and I are doing a picnic this week, too! Love the Hawthorne trimmings. Looks festive on your table.

    1. I haven't tried a Neti pot but the idea of one makes me a bit "gaggy". If you click on the menus they will take you to the places I got the recipes from. I will have to go look and see if I am losing any comments to the spam folder. Have fun on your picnic!!

  2. I'm thinking every teenager who gets new glasses this summer will look the same. Laura's version of Harley's specs are so cute.

  4. I like Harley's glasses, look really nice on her. Yea that you guys are finally doing the picnic later this week. Bet the cat was stalking something like a bird, mouse, or lizard.

    1. Well I'll let you know about the picnic. It now sounds like Justin and Paige are coming over. Maybe I can talk Justin into a picnic. If not I might just have to go with the three grands and leave him home napping. I doubt he'd cry about that. I am sure than cat must have been stalking something. It's just funny that it left so fast I didn't even see it move!

  5. I just took a swig of Nyquil before I read your post....I certainly hope my cough doesn't last that long. Harley is absolutely gorgeous.

  6. Love Harley's oversize glasses!

A sticker? Seriously?! Cracker Jacks, you've gone and turned into a bunch of losers.

I keep looking back at that quote. Summer (as we know it) won't be gone for a good while yet but I'm going to take that challenge and see if I can't identify at least one or two things good about it. LOL!

    1. I love summer. But I am not sure if I lived in Arizona if I would continue to love summer. You guys have been so hot. I keep track of your temps on my smartphone wallpaper. Is that crazy??

  7. I have to be honest, I had no idea what a bierock was. I had to google it. Sounds delish! My granddaughter wears the oversize glasses too. Very cute on Harley and of course on my Bella :)
Oh, Big Brother! I'm kinda not rooting for anyone, in particular, this season. I think Paul and Victor are playing the game hard. Not sure the other's are. Cory seems to be sleeping the season away. Nicole is wrapped up, literally, in Cory. James is all about Natalie. I think he's going to get hurt by her. I, of course, will continue to watch. Don't know if you heard, but BB19 starts in Sept. but will only be available online. You have to subscribe.
    Hope you cough clears up.

    1. Bierocks are delicious. I have been eating them since I was a small girl. My mom called them 'cabbage rolls' but then I grew up and learned that 'cabbage rolls' were something else entirely. No I won't be watching BB19 on-line. I guess I'll find a new show to love!

  8. I've been coughing today, too. But just today. I hope your cough clears up.

I never could stand Cracker Jacks. Not sure why. Not my thing.

  11. The heat and humidity, 90%+ some mornings, continue here. It has been a horrible season for my allergies and has caused my asthma to flare up. I am now using my inhaler that was prescribed for my last bout of bronchitis. I am so ready for fall and even winter.

  12. One of my posts today was on reflection. It is good to take time to see what we've learned from our experiences. I like the sounds of that Million Dollar Casserole. Maybe you'll share a recipe? Hope you have a great week!

  14. Sometimes I'm convinced that cats can sleep with they're eyes open! My cats will do what the cat in your yard was doing, just lay down staring at nothing for the longest time! Love Harleys glasses and I hope you cough goes away soon!

  15. Big Brother is getting boring. Nicole will never win unless she does something to improve her game. Paul will win if he makes it to the final...I still like James and Natalie too, how many times will they allow Victor back in the house...seems stupid to me. :)

  16. I hope you're feeling better by now. I know what you mean about a fresh start. We're just back from holiday, everyone is back to work and I have the peace and quiet of the house to myself so I've made myself a to do list which I'm working through but as I get things done I'm giving myself some blogging time too!

  17. I've been in a state of hesitant transition all summer, so this fall is actually the culmination of that for me.

But I've never really connected the seasons to particular meanings in life. Seasons change, and life changes, but not necessarily in connection. I guess that's why I don't understand poetry!

    1. LOL! I love most poetry. I do connect the seasons with different happenings in my life!
