If you had been looking out my front window a bit ago you would have seen me mowing the grass, riding on my Craftsman riding mower. And you would have seen Harley either pushing a mower or using the battery-operated weed eater. Not too bad of a day here in Kansas. 82* with humidity at 45%. I hardly broke a sweat on that tractor!! LOL
AS I PONDER....
Talked to my brother from Louisiana a bit ago. They had 24 inches of rain in 36 hours down his way. He hasn't floated away yet but the flooding is bad! Welcome to Louisiana big bro!!
WHAT I AM LEARNING...
I am learning to just let the kid make up his own mind about what he wants to do with his future. It's his life. You wouldn't think after raising two sons of my own I would still need to learn this lesson. Guess it's part of that 'control issue' they say I have. Anyway......
I am going to create some chicken dishes this week. Why? Because I just went out to the freezer in the garage and found that the freezer has stopped working and the chicken (two packages of breasts and thighs) had almost completely thawed. So I threw them in the Crockpot to cook. And I'll fancy some dishes made from them. The plug was pulled out a bit from the wall. I plugged it back in and turned the fridge controls up. We'll see what happens! Wish me luck. And say a few prayers.
WHAT I'M READING....
I have put myself on a reading schedule. I should finish The Night Circus on Thursday. Our book club meets on You-Tube Thursday night. And I am about half way with listening to The Boy in the Suitcase.
WHAT I'M WATCHING...
Besides watching Big Brother we are also watching the Rio Olympics. Big Brother is so good right now. Finally the house has wised up and maybe will vote out Paulie!!
WHAT I'M HEARING...
Listening to the Australia/Hungary Shootout Water Polo on TV.

A final thought...
Harley starts school a week from tomorrow. The summer flew by. We need to make plans to get in a picnic before the weather turns cold.
At least the fridge was just unplugged and something worse wasn't amiss. Glad you were able to salvage the chicken.
ReplyDeleteLooks like that is the only problem with the fridge
DeleteI like that quote about responding to something you can't control. Dealing with something in my life right now that I will definitely apply this to. Can't believe summer is over with already for Harley (only 1 week left.) I bet it will seem weird to her not going to school with Darian!
ReplyDeletebetty
Me too, Betty! Yes, she thinks it will be weird. But she'll do okay!
DeleteSo much good stuff here, Paula!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the wreath you created! I especially like the next two photos, allowing us a glimpse of YOUR perspective. Do I sound like a hopeless voyeur, or what? :)
I seriously need to tattoo that 'control' quote on my palm, before I stroke out at the office one of these days.
Glad to know your brother is doing OK! I couldn't believe the videos coming out of Baton Rouge on the evening news.
Oh, one more thing! I've an amazing crock-pot recipe for chicken florentine if you're interested ...and not sick of cluck before the week's out!
Thank you for all your kind words. I can take the wreath apart and use it in the future too!! I would love to see your palm tattoo LOL. Yes, send me the recipe. I love new recipes to try!!
DeleteAll that water in the South is scary. I love sunflowers so I think your mantle is just perfect! I always fold clothing right out of the dryer, my daughter brings hers to the dining room table too...the photo made me smile:)
ReplyDeleteHarley and Darian both fold their clothes at the dining room table.
DeleteAll that water in the south is scary, but like a lot of area there is a lot of drama involved. The floors in my house are at 42" and the water was at 36", the highway at the end of my flood drive was still dry. I watched a lot of recuses where people were on the roof and waiting calmly for rescue boats. I watched many many people in east Baton Rouge area with water half way up their yard, standing in their drive ways waiting for the boats and screaming they were going to drown. if them boats didn't comes faster. Boy I love the ghetto mentality. Anyhow 10's of thousands saved and so far 6 deaths and I believe 3 of those are because people were driving on flooded roads. I'm safe and both kids,(puppies) are safe the yard has drained and the car was still where I left it and runs. The AC runs and the ice tea is cold, can't yet do sweet tea
ReplyDeleteKeep staying high and dry! And don't be too proud to get in one of those boats should you need to be rescued!! Sure glad you sprung for life insurance.
DeleteOops make that flood insurance!!
DeleteHi Paula - glad your brother is safe from the rain - that's volumes of it ... take care and enjoy the picnic when you can get it in ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteWe'll tell you all about the picnic when we go!!
DeleteI love your mantle and the sunflowers. I try to always always remember that about the only thing I can truly control is my attitude and that takes some doing at times. Hope you have a good week. We had been dry here but the last few days of rain are bringing things to life again.
ReplyDeleteIt really is the only thing we can truly control, isn't it? I hope your week is good too!
DeleteCame back on the blog after three weeks! Had so many of ur articles to catch up on :) Loving your whole sunflower theme..
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. We are enjoying the sunflowers here in the great state of Kansas. It it our state flower too!
DeleteWe had hardly any rain this summer and everything is dried up! But luckily last night and this morning it rained several inches.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you finally had some rain. We have had our share but I'm sure it won't be enough to please everyone!
DeleteI like how your wreath turned out. Looks great on your mantle. You'll get there with letting Darian figure out his life. It's not easy. I think it means we want the best for them, want to help minimize roadblocks. Sorry to read about your freezer.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness the garage fridge was only partly unplugged and it immediately started working again!! Whew! Yes, it is hard to let them figure out life on their own. But they have to for it to be their own life!! I wouldn't listen to my mom either.
DeleteOh no.....At least you caught it before all the contents were lost. I love that wreath....great job. I think the hardest thing about having adult children is that your tongue is constantly sore from holding it and biting it LOL>
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendy! Yes, adult children! Just sitting here shaking my head...
DeleteI sure hope your brother doesn't experience any flooding in his home and hope he stays safe. It's really sad what's going on there. We've had a ton of rain here over the last three days: very unusual for mid-August. Our temps even dropped into the 70s (normally it's over 100 for this time of year). A very welcome change!
ReplyDeleteYour mantle looks really nice! I like it a lot.
Have fun creating all your chicken dishes! That's a lot o' chicken! :)
Have a great rest of the week...
Michele at Angels Bark
It did not get into his home but some in his car! Thanks for the mantle compliments!!
