MONDAY'S LIFE LIST-May 16, 2016 Edition

LOOKING OUT MY WINDOW....

Today, as I look out my window, I see puddles of rain water everywhere. We have had a steady drizzle since last night. Just the kind of rain that has been needed. Everything will grow and bloom and we will soon be into full summer.

I AM THANKFUL...

I am thankful the rain held off for our graduation party on Saturday. We had a beautiful, but cool, day. Perfect for the party!

AS I PONDER....

Now I ponder the summer before us. Harley has a full day of school today and half a day tomorrow. Then she is out until August. Darian started his new full-time job this morning! So, while I'd like to believe we are going to be on a slower, more laid-back, lifestyle I doubt it will be.

WHAT I AM LEARNING...

Matthew 6:30

"Therefore do not be anxious, saying 'What shall we eat? or 'What shall we drink?" or "What shall we wear?" For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father know that you need them all."

WHAT I AM CREATING...

I am thinking about my summer mantle and how I want it to look. We decorated it for graduation with the banner being "2016" and pictures of the Marine Corps. Now onto summer!!

WHAT I'M READING....

I finished "reading" Blonde. Actually, I listened to it. Made it easier for me to get ready for a graduation celebration. I will post my review this week. Now I am reading The Husband's Secret by Lian Moriarty. Have you read this book.

WHAT I'M WATCHING...

Last night I watched another episode of The Family on ABC. Sadly, I just learned there will not be a season 2. I enjoyed this show. It was a crime-drama mystery and I guess we will never know how it was to end. I hate when shows I really like get canceled.

WHAT I'M HEARING...

I am currently listening to The Chew. I really enjoy this daytime show. I've gathered some fine recipes from watching. And I plan to sit here today and catch up with My Feedly reader. I have so many blog posts to read! And leave comments on. So the TV will be my background companion on this dreary, rainy, afternoon.

WHAT'S ON MY CAMERA...

WHAT I'M DRINKING....

As I sit here at the computer, I am sipping a cup of hot coffee laced with French Vanilla Cream. Ah, how I missed you my little creamy friend!

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE KITCHEN...

Monday...Leftovers
Tuesday...Hot dogs
Wednesday...Celebration at Church
Thursday...Shredded smoked chicken
Friday...Chopped Southwest Chicken Salad
Saturday...Shepard's Pie
Sunday...Green Bean Soup (For Paige)

A QUOTE I WANT TO SHARE...

HAPPENINGS IN MY BACKYARD...

When things dry out, we will continue with our removing the raised beds Richard built years ago. And the ever and ongoing raking and picking up leaves and twigs. That chore never seems to end. Then I need to contact the plumber to see what we are going to do about an outdoor water faucet. So many things to do. So little energy to do it with!

A PEEK INTO MY WEEK...

This week will be mostly about winding down the school year. Getting Harley signed up for basketball camp which starts on May 31th and then taking her and picking her up 4 days a week. Plus getting Darian to and from work and Harley too and from work (if she gets a job!!) I will have a busy summer of taxi-driving. How much do you think I should charge them??

A FINAL THOUGHT....

Darian is now a high school graduate. It doesn't seem like it was that long ago when he and his sister arrived at our house. He was just finishing the 5th grade then. I never dreamed the years would fly by the way they have. I am very proud of the man he has become. (I still choke on that word "Man" as he will always be a little boy to me). There were some ups and downs for him on his special day. More ups than downs I am happy to report. We had an awesome family/friend get together. On Sunday Uncle Justin took him to the gun range and they spent the afternoon firing a variety of guns. Major excitement for Darian! And I expect for Uncle Justin too. The girls and I went shopping. Today is Paige's 16th birthday. I always take her shopping on her birthday. She gets to buy what she wants. She got an adorable dress and sunglasses and make-up! Just those important things a 16 year old girl needs. Then last evening we had dinner at the Olive Garden for her celebration. We will have Birthday cake this coming weekend.

A FINAL PICTURE THOUGHT....

In the words of Scarlett O'Hara...
"After all, tomorrow is another day!" Isn't that the truth! I will think about this tomorrow.......

  2. Would-ja look at that grin on the graduate's face?! Yes, I was looking forward to seeing these pix. :)

You're spot on, how quickly the years escape us. I love what my DIL says: "Time is a thief."

    1. Yep, the new boyfriend. He is pretty cute. And seems to be quite the gentleman. But then he has a big brother and an over-protective uncle to answer to...

  5. Wow! A post full of happy pix and happy times. So glad the weather was on your side for graduation. Congratulations to Darian and Happy Sweet Sixteen to Harley. I hope they both get to enjoy their summers away from school. I like the graphic you have of your Monday Memo Pad. So glad to read you've had more ups than downs. That's a plus, isn't? Good job, Paula!

    1. Yes, more ups than downs does make it a plus. These kids have had a lot going on in their lives and they deserve more ups!!

  6. What a journey you've been on. Congratulations to your grandson Darien. I understand the feeling of time wooshing by. I Ike your final picture thought and Scarlett's famous quote. It made me chuckle. A boyfriend indeed.

  8. Happy birthday, Paige. Congrats to Darian on his graduation. Does he not drive? Rather than taxi service, shouldn't he be driving himself around?

    1. He just completed driver's ed last week and doesn't have a license yet. But the bigger problem is he doesn't have a car. I only have one car and I need it! So until then I will drive him.

  9. So glad the weather held for Darian's graduation get together! Congrats Darian!! Such great pictures, enjoyed the one with Harley and her "beau." Happy birthday to Paige!! That is wonderful how you celebrate their birthdays!

Just a thought, if they are both gainfully employed and you are driving them around, I think I would ask for gas money. Maybe gauge how many miles round trip it is to get them to and from work, figure out gallons per mile and charge them accordingly because you know your gas and car expenses will go up chauffeuring them around.

    1. Since there are only the 3 biological grandkids it is easier to celebrate birthdays this way! It wouldn't be easy if I had a whole passel of them. And it would be too expensive!! That is a great suggestion about driving them around this summer!!

  10. Rain, that's how my day started off today. I'm so glad that the rain held off for a successful and fun graduation party!
You are going to be so busy taxi-driving the kids around! But at least you'll be so connected into their lives. When they get their own vehicles and start driving themselves, you're going to miss all the taxi service, I bet.
I love the relationship you have with them. All of you are so blessed!

That's too bad that they've cancelled The Family. I haven't watched it but I too hate when good shows get cancelled. These stupid suits at the networks make some really dumb decisions sometimes. You know I did my A-Z on classic TV shows so I'm all about TV. Don't take away my favorite shows!
I'm already grieving the season finale of Bates Motel. It's so good and we have to wait so long for the next season! I just can't wait to see where this is going! Do you watch that show??

Have a wonderful week Paula! Enjoy the rains. Just think how good the trees and the flowers feel. They're just drinking it all up!

    1. One of the best times to find out what is going on in their lives is when they are a captive audience in the car being taxied around!! Yes, I could tell you loved TV!! LOL! I do too! I watch way too much but that is what retirement is to me!! I have not watched Bates Motel but Paige and Harley watch it. They binge on the weekends to catch up!
