A Perfectly Ketchup Life Hack

Can you believe it is already Wednesday?? I know, right! Harley started Basketball camp today so we were up really early to make that trip to the school, took Darian to work, came home and waited for it to be time to pick-up Harley and then came home for a nap!! No kidding. I took a nap before noon! Every year since Richard's father died (in 1973) we have bought red geraniums and covered his grave. His mother joined him in 2000 and we continued with the tradition. It was one of the things I promised Richard I would carry on for him. Harley and I took a big pot of geraniums out on Saturday with a plan to return to pick them up today. This is what we always do. And they are always there. But not this year. This year they were gone. It makes me so mad to think someone would steal flowers off of someone's loved ones grave. It has happened at the cemetery where my angel baby is buried. But never at this cemetery. Harley's attitude was good. "Well, someone must have needed them more than we did." Just pisses me off. Do you go back and bring your flowers home after the holiday?

And here is this week's life hack. I used to do this for my kiddos when we went to McDonald's and they wanted ketchup for their French fries. This was before they have the little cups and the huge pump containers they have now. We rarely ever go into a fast food restaurant to eat anymore. But this would still work for kids and their ketchup. Do you have a nifty life hack you use at a fast food restaurant that you would care to share with us today??

  2. Did you know those little cups that you pump the ketchup into open up into a plate? I discovered that online recently.

  3. Hi Paula - so sorry to read about the stolen geraniums ... that is appalling, but Harley's attitude is brilliant - what a great kid. Next Year ... leave them for a while as you walk around, then pick them up and take them home - knowing Richard will share them with you at home as well. With thoughts - Hilary

  5. That is a great tip about the ketchup baecause not all the places have those little cups. Now I want some fries!

That was terrible about the flowers. Disrespectful for those that passed.

You did a good job, Grandma!! Those flowers are nothing compared to the lovely person your grand daughter has become! That can't be stolen from you.

When I visit my parents grave I leave a single rose on each. From what I understand, the deer population is pretty heavy in the cemetery where they are buried and flowers usually are eaten! If not, they are routinely picked up by cemetery staff. So I never leave a pot of anything and I don't return for them.

    1. That is so true Elaine! I don't think these flowers were eaten by a deer, though!

  7. Yes, I have had flowers stolen like that before. Sad to think people can sink so low. I give you lots of credit for your clever ketchup holder in the cup lid. I never thought about doing that. We simply squirted the ketchup over our fries. I've found though that doesn't work for my grandchildren. They like their ketchup separate so they can dip their own.

    1. This is a first for me at this cemetery. They get stolen at my angel babies cemetery but after I discovered that the first time I never go back there to get them. It is too heartbreaking!

  8. Too bad about those flowers! People are unbelievable! Pretty clever little life hack with the ketchup! I never thought of that! A friend used to rip the top off of the little packets and dip her French fries into it!

  9. WHO would steal geraniums from a burial spot? That is so low. Sorry to hear that happened to you.

  10. I don't have a fast food hack, but I left a little something for Richard's folks at my place.

  11. Stealing flowers from the graves of others loved ones is about as low as it gets. I say that because this is not your 'normal' thief. This is someone you may come across every day on the street, in the grocery store, in church, at school etc. A person no one would suspect. I really don't like that.

    1. Linda, I am afraid you might be right. Someone who wanted them for their yard and didn't want to pay for them!

  12. Just yesterday, one of my FB friends complained about the same thing! ...Flowers being stolen from a loved one's grave, that is. Props to Harley for choosing to take the high road. (I wouldn't have been so generous.)

    Cute idea about the ketchup!

    1. I wasn't as generous as Harley either. I paid $38 for those geraniums and planned to put them on my front porch. Pissed me off!

  13. That's pretty low to steal flowers off of a grave. So I wonder how the thief feels every time he/she looks at the plant. Guilty? Obviously not.

    1. Nope, I doubt they feel the least bit guilty! I hope they get bugs and it infest all the rest of their flowers! Ooops, I'm not nice!

  15. Oh that is absolutely horrible that someone stole the geraniums off of Richard's parents graves! That pisses me off too. But you said it: Harley's attitude is great. It's easy to say that though... I'd be peeved beyond words. Stupid people! I hope they are losing sleep over their dirty deed...but sadly, they probably aren't. I really hate people sometimes...

    1. Yes, I was pissed beyond words. I can't be as kind as Harley. I doubt they missed a wink. It is a sad commentary on some people, isn't it?

  16. I can't believe someone stole your flowers. Kudos to Harley and her great attitude

    1. Kudos is right! But, sometimes it is okay to get pissed at the world! I hope she learns that too. Sometimes I think the attitude people take (when they see nothing but good) is what gives license to so many who want to be awful. Maybe I am just jaded

I just read yesterday on Fb where a lady caught another woman stealing some flowers off her porch, When cornered all the guilty lady said was Well you had so many. No remorse at all! Stealing off a grave though really pisses me off. Sorry that happened my friend. May the plant get infested with bugs and causes them great annoyance!
