A Spring Has Sprung Hodgepodge

What a beautiful day in Kansas! Welcome to the Hodgepodge. Answer the questions and join the link you will find at From This Side of the Pond!

1. Has spring sprung in your little corner of the world? Other than the calendar how would I know? What's your favorite thing about spring?

Spring has most definitely sprung here in my home state of Kansas. Today it was 77 degrees outside. I had to fight with myself not to want to turn on the A/C. Opening the windows is what I'll start with. Don't you love when you have open windows and fresh air blows throughout the house? And yet, in the neighboring state of Colorado they are dealing with a blizzard today!!

2. Besides the weather, what's put a spring in your step recently?

I'm helping to get a young man ready for his first formal dance. Senior Prom! He was measured for a tux yesterday. It is fun to see them make plans.

3. How does Easter impact you?

We haven't made Easter the big celebration that we do other holidays. When the kids were younger they liked to hunt for eggs and get their Easter baskets. Now, they just attend church and come home for baked ham!

4. I saw this somewhere on Facebook and thought it would make a fun Hodgepodge question. Which of the following would you find most disappointing...

a just stuffed taco shell breaking open and spilling out before you take the first bite? dropping a just-purchased Starbucks/Dunkin Donuts coffee? opening the peanut butter jar and finding it empty? upending onto the sidewalk a just-purchased ice cream cone? a burnt bagel popping up in your toaster when you're rushing breakfast? or cutting into an avocado and finding out it's rotten?

I almost can't decide which would be most disappointing! Spilling a cup of Star Bucks coffee would be tragic. But I have never had Star Bucks in my life so I really can't relate. I do know that it is way expensive. I'm not a huge fan of peanut butter so the only thing that would bother me there is that they didn't put it on the grocery list. I just recently cut into an avocado and found the entire thing was rotten. So I'm going with the avocado!!

5. What's something held together with tape at your house? Or a paper clip? Or a wing and a prayer?

Surprisingly, I can't think of anything.

6. Do you feel underappreciated? In what way?

There are times I feel underappreciated. Usually, though, my family lets me know how much I mean to them.

7. What's something you'd build if you knew how?

I would build a headboard for Darian's bed, if I knew how. I will assign that chore to Darian and Justin. They'll be able to accomplish it. I think! If not, they will go to You Tube and figure something out. Thank the Lord for You Tube! Do you go to You Tube to see how to do something?

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I have been pondering whether to do or not to do The A to Z Challenge this year. I think most of my readers know what this challenge is. This challenge  was created by Arlee Bird, a gentleman who blogs at Tossing It Out. He created the challenge for the month of April. You blog everyday of the month but Sundays: hence 26 days. Using the alphabet, blog posts are written for each day starting with A and ending with Z. This year there are well over 1,000 people participating. The best part of the challenge is to PARTICIPATE! Go visit others. Many of my nearest and dearest blogging friends I met through the A to Z Blogging Challenge. I have been back and forth, back and forth, about if I was going to participate this year. My first A to Z was in 2013 when I wrote about places we had visited. In 2014 I wrote about caregiving. This was that horrible year in my life when my husband was dying and I was his caregiver. Last year I wrote about lessons I have learned over my lifetime. This year I am going to just write about snippets of things that have happened in my life. This might include feelings, people who may have affected me, things that have happened to me.....just some stories. I promise to keep them short. And I may or may not make them entertaining. Come back and see what I decide to do with this challenge. I'm winging it.  Bear with me. But most of all come visit!

  2. I actually feel underappreciated here quite often!!
as far as what is held together with tape or a wing and a prayer - I thought about answering - my entire house - ha! But one thing that is taped that needs to be fixed is our cable wire that is outside. I finally covered it with a bowl, because it would short out when it rained and the cable would stop working until I went out in the rain and squeezed the wire back together. My husband keeps saying he will fix it better - but so far.... (it got cut by the guys cutting the greenery growing up our fireplace months ago)!

  3. I'll be watching for your posts. It is challenging, particularly about Day 8 or 9 I think. I say give yourself some grace and do the best you can. I feel like it gets me moving a bit here on the blog this time of year. Happy Easter! We always have a baked ham too. Yum!

    1. I have no problems with giving myself plenty of grace! Thanks for that reminder! Yes, baked ham is the best, isn't it?

  4. I really, really do hope you A to Z again! If you do decide to, don't forget to get on the linky list and to add the logo to your sidebar.

Now to this post...Spring is everywhere here and will make for a beautiful Easter if we don't have Thunderstorms...I think gearing up for the Challenge has put a spring in my step....These days we celebrate Easter with our church. First we have a play, then we have dinner on the grounds and then an Easter Egg hunt for the little kids....I suppose the spilled Starbucks would be my most disappointing of those options. I know the least would be the broken taco. Put it on a plate, get a fork and presto-chango, taco salad....What can't Duct tape fix?! Gracious, our poor home is in such disrepair after all these years of Pete not working and not feeling good...I feel under-appreciated almost all the time. But thankfully, that's not where I get my sense of self worth. God set me straight a long time ago that I do what I do for Him....I just don't want to build anything!...Random thought: Wonder if I'll be appreciated when I get back to work? Taking my first full week of vacation in the 11 years I've been there!

    1. I put my name on the list last night! I am way, way, way down there. I will get the logo onto my sidebar today! Thanks for reminding me! We are having massive grass fires so the sky has been grey all day today!

  5. That's sure heartwarming that your family makes sure you realize how much you're appreciated! Funny how little things like that make a huge difference!

An a'la carte challenge sounds intriguing; I always enjoy your 'snippets'! 'Imagine coming up with a theme is half the work!

  7. Spring has diffidently arrived here in Louisiana. When I left to come back and close on the house and spend a week with you, the trees had no leaves, the grass had brown spots and this bush that everyone has was just sprigs. On return my trees have filled with green leaves and have beautiful outlines. The brown in the yards have turned to soft greens and the wild flowers are in full bloom. May be weeds but the yellow and white flower look great. That bush still has me fooled as to what it is, Light purple, pink orange, orange and light pink flowers cover the sprigs until you see no leaves or sprigs. The high waters have receded around the farm, but the earth is still to wet to mow with burying the mower. Birds and squirrels run crazy through the woods next to us and keep the puppies barking all day. That's spring here in the south

    1. This was very well written, bro. You should start a blog again and start documenting your life in Louisiana

  8. Not much spring here yet. Still looks wintery some days the snow falls at night but melts during the day. I would be bummed out about the peanut butter jar being empty, I don't have peanut butter often but when I want it I want it to be there. I don't like Avacado at all, don't drink coffee and rearly eat ice cream.
Just do what you feel you can with the A to Z challenge, I always do my own thing...that would be too structured for me:)

    1. Well we aren't nearly as spring like today either. Got down into the upper 20's last night and today we barely made 50!

  9. I hope you do do the A to Z. But some years, I know, just aren't right for it. I recently learned that YouTube has makeup videos. Mostly, I go there looking for knitting techniques, but that's pretty rare, really. It's nice to know the resource is there if needed.

I had to laugh at that question about which would be the most disappointing. Because most of those I wouldn't care about. I don't drink coffee or eat peanut butter or avocados. When I'm rushing breakfast, all I'm eating are a couple of hard boiled eggs, cooked the night before (I always am rushing in the morning; I'd never have time for a bagel). And a broken taco shell is still edible. When reading questions like that, I am reminded how out of the main I am.

    1. I am thinking through some A to Z posts. Last night our power went off and today my computer won't turn on. I am working on Darian's laptop right now. We will see how this goes!

  10. Definitely will come back and visit you if you do the A/Z and I am like Liz, I hope you do; I have enjoyed 2014 and 2015's; I skipped 2013 due to a family problem that took me from blogging for 6 months. Snippets of your life could be great to share!

I hope you don't get that blizzard from Colorado! We've had wind and cooler weather the past few days.

I hope you do post a picture of Darian all "decked" out for his prom. My hubby's birthday is in the first part of June, the traditional time schools in the San Diego area would have their proms; we always had fun celebrating his birthday and seeing prom dates coming in :)
