For Today...
Monday, November 8, 2015. So many thoughts are in my mind. Hope I get them all down today.

Outside my window...
While I was out and about this weekend, running kids here and there, I could not help but notice the beauty of fall. I like what this time of year serves up on my plate. The rich, beautiful burnished oranges. The rusty reds. The golden yellows. The fading greens and the darker browns. All these colors show what a wonderful time of year this is. And soon they will all be lying on the ground covered in snow. Brrrrrrrr!!
I am thinking...
I am thinking (remembering) the crazy weekend. Darian had an out of town debate tournament on Saturday AND his winter formal on Saturday night. His date and he planned to dine out first and then attend the dance afterwards. So I deliver him to the high school at 6:30 a.m. and he boards the bus. This is when he learned that his debate partner was sick and not going. So Darian spent the day spectating instead of debating. At the end of the day they loaded onto the bus and it wouldn't start!!! It was 5:30 and they were about 45 minutes from home. He was f.r.e.a.k.i.n.g. out! I calmed him down, picked him up, he raced through the shower and into his formal clothes and we arrived at his lady's home by 7:00. I waited in the car. (They neither have a driver's license yet so I was driving them to and fro). Darian came out of the house and said that her parents wanted to meet me. EEEEEK! I wasn't prepared for this. I was dressed in my cleaning clothes. But, I pulled the keys out of the ignition and prepared to go in and meet the family. Very nice people, by the way. And then walking back out to the car I realized I had left the keys on the car seat and....wait for it....yep, locked the car doors. Oh my gosh. I was so embarrassed. So we ended up with her mom taking them to the restaurant and her dad bringing me home to get my other set of keys. I felt like a total idiot. Everyone laughed of course. Then Darian texts that he forgot the tickets to the dance. So I raced home, found the tickets, returned to pick them up from the restaurant and deliver them to the high school. Whew! Good time had by the kids. And this one will go into the memory books.

I am thankful...
I am thankful my grandson has a great sense of humor. I sent him a text telling him I was sorry if I embarrassed him. He answered with:
"You are okay, granny! I love you!" Love that kid.

This is what I am currently working on. It will be for Harley when I am done. Lots of reds, pinks, teals, and yellows. Coloring is so relaxing. And just as hard to stay in the lines as when I was a kid!!
I am going...
I am going to work on the laundry today.

I am wondering...
I am wondering about the up-coming holidays. I told the kids yesterday that we were not decorating this year and Paige came un-glued. Took me a bit to convince her I was only teasing. I will be putting up the tree at Thanksgiving. When they are all here to help!!
I am reading...
I am reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Kahled Hosseni. So far I am liking it very much. Women in Kabul is so different from women in America.

I am hoping I will have time for some reading later today!

I am learning...
John 15:5
"I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing."

Outside my house...
Outside my house the trees are definitely fall-like. But the temperatures are cold. Last night we got a fairly heavy frost. Winter is on its way. I am not a fan of winter. Hope it is mild this year.

I didn't do very well with following last week's menu. So I have to be extra careful this week and stick to the plan.

What I am listening to...
It is Sunday night as I type this and I am listening to 90 Day Fiance. Strange show. It makes me wonder if these people are really interested in the people they bring here to marry. Or if the people they are bringing here are just looking for entry into the United States. So far it is interesting. Even if I do find it weird.

A peek into my week...
Darian has an appointment with the optometrist tomorrow evening. I will have to pick them up at school where he will be having debate practice and Harley is baking brownies for FCCLA to sell. Nothing much going on Tuesday so maybe I can get the bathrooms scrubbed clean. Wednesday they have youth group at church. Thursday Darian does PT with the Marines and Harley and I are going shopping for basketball shoes. (Practice starts next week). Friday is open. And then another weekend. I believe Darian has another Debate tournament on Saturday....
One of my favorite things...

Hi Paula - oh dear what a day Saturday was ... I'm just so glad everyone laughed and helped and your grandson - does sound a wonder and a delight. Have a great week ... all the best Hilary
ReplyDeleteIt was a Saturday to remember, for sure!
DeleteSuch pretty pictures of the leaves! I too am enjoying the beautiful colors of all the leaves changing :)
ReplyDeleteWow, you had a day and a half (maybe 2 days) on your Saturday! Lots of driving around! Darian and his date look so very pretty and handsome!
It is amazing that the holidays are coming up, all the stores starting to decorate, even have a neighbor across the street that decorated for Christmas already!
betty
I don't know if the leaves are just "really pretty" this year, or if I am just enjoying them so much!
DeleteWhat a day you had! And your grandson weathered the storm well by the look of his message to you after it was over. That's so sweet. The photo of you helping him with his boutinniere is precious. Your are reading a good author.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first read for this author. Thank you Gram for your sweet words
DeleteI LOVED "A Thousand Splendid Suns"! One of my favorite books ever! Brought me to tears a few times! I'm anxious to hear what you thought of it! Your Saturday sounds like one of those days where if something could go wrong, it did! Glad it all turned out OK though.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I have read this author. So far I am liking it!
DeleteI am so glad Darien's dance came off well. Such fun to meet the opposite parents!
ReplyDeleteOne way to NOT forget this dance anyway!
DeleteThe car keys incident, oh my, what a way to get to know the girl's parents. They seem like good people and the young couple is just adorable.
ReplyDeleteThey seemed like good people to me too!
DeleteYou were a lot more level-headed than I would have been with locking your keys in. And, if I would have been your grandson, I don't know if I would have been put together enough to attend the dance that night.
ReplyDeleteLove the quote you chose, so true.
I don't know about level-headed!! Darian is pretty easy going most of the time!
DeleteOh my goodness, what a comedy of errors....you gave me my laugh for the day...at least your hair wasn't in curlers LOL
ReplyDeleteLOL! That's true. But then again my hair is NEVER in curlers. Not enough hair there!!
DeleteWow that day wore me out just reading it with all the back and forth and running around. Crazy day indeed.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to your review of the book. I 've never heard of it before but always looking for good books to read.
That is how my days are with the teens! I am liking this book Holli. Stay tuned for my review
DeleteGood grief ... what a Saturday. I was f.r.e.a.k.i.n.g out, just reading along!!! 'So glad Darian was cool with it all ... that's pretty mature in my book. Definitely one for the memory books!
ReplyDeletePS - D and his date's pix is outstanding!
They looked quite nice didn't they?
DeleteDarian and his date made a lovely couple. Glad things worked out. Crazy way to get there, though.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kwiz! Life at our house is always exciting!
DeleteHello! Nice to meet you! Thanks for the comment on my blog! What a Saturday night you had...all is well that ends well and that night made some memories! Lovely couple in the photo! :)
ReplyDeleteHello! Nice to meet you too. Thanks for your nice comments!
Deletegreat daybook.
ReplyDeleteThanks Denise!
DeleteLocked the keys in the car... Yep, I've done that one too. It happens when your mind is on other things. It'll make for a great story for Darian to tell years from now.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I have ever locked my keys in the car!
DeleteWow, coloring!!
ReplyDeleteI am late to the party on this. About a week ago I "discovered" this trend - started researching it on line, visited stores to see what the options are and bought an adult coloring book (no porn, ha!) and pencils (much research on the pencils was done - I am all about the research.) I haven't started but I am enthused. And here you are talking about a page you are about to color. Now I don't feel so odd!!!! Ha.
I have found it to be very relaxing. I usually color when I am watching TV in the evenings! This is my 5th page to color. I am looking for new pages today. You can download them free off the internet. Just search "free adult coloring pages"
