#Throwback Thursday
Don't we all love Throwback Thursday? And it's almost Halloween so what better time to show this picture. This is my siblings and me in about 1959. Mom made all the costumes, as was the trend back then. I don't think I ever can remember a store bought costume. I am the Witch (still am, some would say) and that is a mop on my head. I can remember really wanting to be the princess but, alas, being the younger sister I never won those battles. Cool picture, don't you think?

This is priceless!
ReplyDeleteYep It is! I was happy to find this picture
DeleteI love this! My mom always made our costumes too. I was the only girl so I got to be the princess, lucky me!
ReplyDeleteYes, you were lucky!
DeleteGreat picture! I remember one costume that was store-bought, a red Chinese robe. It didn't really matter because by the end of October it was cold and I usually had to wear a coat over my costume. Nonetheless, I have great Halloween memories.
ReplyDeleteThat is how it is here too....except this year. We are still in the 80's! Nice to see you Carol
Deletevery cool.
ReplyDeleteThank you Wendy....
DeleteI love it! My favorite of LP's costumes over the years are the ones I made! I once made a Mary Poppins costume and another year I made a poodle skirt. She also had the requisite store-bought princess and diva costumes. I remember wearing the same one a few years in a row when I was growing up!
ReplyDeleteI never really made costumes for my boys...wasn't hard to come up with a hobo, cowboy, or nurse uniform. Wish I could find the picture of Justin being a 'female' nurse one year.
DeleteWe had home made costumes, too. I loved them!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be fun to still dress up?
DeleteLove the picture! Was it taken at school? Trying to figure out the building behind it.
ReplyDeleteWe too had homemade costumes. I think it was funner to do that than by a store bought one :)
betty
That is where we lived Betty. They were apartments that had at once time being part of an old Navy base. They made them into 'low income housing'. I think homemade costumes are better too....I'm not sure I thought that back then. Lots of kids had the store bought kind and that is what I wanted to. You know how it is?
DeleteOh I love love that picture! You are right, I remember my Mom making the costumes too. It was almost a competition thing between the parents. Patterns and all. So much fun though back then. Never had to worry walking around at night either. Good times. Thanks for that reminder in this photo of yours!
ReplyDeleteMy mom was so talented. I don't think I appreciated her talent then. And you are right about no worries on Halloween night. My mom stayed home and passed out candy to hundreds of kids while we trick or treated the whole town with a pillowcase in hand. Many times we came home and dumped the candy on the bed and went out and filled it again...oh the memories.
DeleteI love this photo, Paula! Your little hands were folded so demurely in front :)
ReplyDeleteWeren't we fortunate to have the sorts of moms who took the time to craft our costumes out of this-and-that and lots of love ... vs. taking the easy road.
Folded as demurely as a little witch can fold them, huh? LOL
DeleteYou came from a big family. I envy that.
ReplyDeleteHaving come from a large family, I don't know if there is anything to envy. We have our problems believe me!
DeleteYou probably are right. Both pros and con's for either side
