Waking up!
Finally, today, after four days of Richard being in a drugged state he is BETTER! I think the long acting morphine was just too much for him. He is more awake today. More like himself. We will re-evaluate pain meds with the Hospice nurse tomorrow. It is the hardest thing I have ever had to make decisions about. If keeping him comfortable means keep him drugged then I don't know that I am going to be able to do this. It is horrible to watch him in such a coma like state. But watching him suffer with pain is bad too! Hopefully we can find a happy medium. Thanks to all of my blogging friends for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.

Glad to read this update, Paula. I hope you and hospice can come up with the best combination of meds that keeps him comfortable but more alert.

She was here today and we are going to try something different. We'll see how it works!
DeleteWonderful news. You guys have been in my brain all day. I am so happy to see this and can't wait to hear what hospice has to say/suggest. Stay strong and trust your instincts. Hugs, Lisa
ReplyDeleteThe past few days have been a nightmare. First he was drugged out of his head. Then I was certain he was dying. Then he woke up and has been "crazy" and needy and I am worn out. Maybe drugged out of his head wasn't so bad after all.
DeleteKeeping my fingers crossed that a medium ground can be found.
ReplyDeleteI'm crossing mine with you
DeleteThanks so much for the update....I was praying daily and worried when we hadn't heard from you.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a rough few days Wendy!!

DeleteI am sorry I've been absent. My job has been overwhelming me with little relief in sight. I finally got some breathing room and I am now all caught up with where you are. I am so sorry to hear this is happening. I've been there. My husband had been on morphine for years. However, he's very tolerant to it. It only lasts about 20 minutes, even if it's the long lasting/extended release type. But fentanyl patches, in conjunction with morphine and a few others, I've seen that glassed over look. I've also seen the stupor or near-coma look as well. Those, however, were due to the drug interactions and I nearly lost him to seratonin syndrome...twice. :( I hated seeing him like that. I completely understand how torn you are. I wish I could offer some kind of advice, but I don't know what to say. All I can do is let you know I'm here, listening, and you're not alone!
