Today's prompt is one of my hardest. But I will give it my best:
Gratitude
I am one of those people who sees my cup as half empty. It's just the way that I am. I think I was raised that way. I wish I could be a happy, go-lucky, kind of girl who saw the postitive in everything. But I'm not! I struggle with it. I ask myself, "how can I find the positive in what I am living?" This is not how I envisioned my life and if I had my way this is not how I would be living it. But it is what has been handed to me. And I must survive. With as much of myself intact as I can. So I look for things to be thankful for.
This will work for me every time. I just have to think about someone who has it worse off than me. So I will list what I have today that I am thankful for.
- I have a roof over my head and it is paid for.
- I have a car, that is paid for, and still runs. (even if the A/C doesn't at the moment)
- We eat well. Too well. Wouldn't hurt any of us to cut back a bit here.
- I get enough money each month with social security and Richard's retirement to pay our bills and have a bit left over.
- I have nine healthy, happy grandchildren.
- I have two of the best living with me and helping me to care for my husband.
- I have the greatest son a mother could ever ask for. He helps me financially, when I need it, and emotionally all the time. He is the best!
- I live in a country of freedoms. A place where I can voice my opinion and not get arrested. Or killed. Or have my head and hands cut off. And I have plenty of opinions to share.
- I am healthy!
I am happy to have participated in this challenge. I didn't make it every day but I gave it my best shot. If you want to see what others are grateful for today, just go here, check out the link-up. And let's all wish May good-bye and say hello to June!
I enjoyed your May challenge perhaps I will join you in June if you find another.
ReplyDeleteI haven't even looked into that yet!
DeleteI have evolved into a glass half-full person. Maybe I have always been one, I don't remember not being a suzy sunshine.
ReplyDeleteLOL...I will never be accused of being a Suzy Sunshine. But I am happy to have you in my life.
DeleteGlad to have found you through the challenge and hope to keep popping by. Great list x
ReplyDeleteNice to have met you as well Arline!
DeleteI am grateful to have met you and I think you are keeping it real here and that's what I like so much about you. You are accepting the challenges life has given you and dealing with them in a realistic way. Neither positive nor negative. Personally, I find an overly positive attitude a bit tiring. I prefer to keep it real.
ReplyDeleteThat is me....keeping it real! Thanks Inger
DeleteI often say to myself, "count your blessings". It always picks me up. Good job on this! What will we do in June?! Can't believe May is over.
ReplyDeleteI have no June plans yets!
DeleteSometimes - well, most times when I have difficulty sleeping, I make lists like this to put my head in the right place. Wow, so much I've taken for granted!
ReplyDeleteAnd like you, I struggle to find that half-full perspective. Seems I've always been a bit wary of living a 'sunshine, lollipops and roses' existence, only to be blindsided.
Exactly how I feel Myra!
DeleteI'm with you, Paula, I'm more of a half empty philosopher myself, but you are right, when it comes down to it, we really do have it so much better than the majority of people and we should always be grateful for what we do have, like the things you listed here. WTG on attempting another challenge after A/Z! Will be interesting to see where your blogging takes you next.
ReplyDeletebetty
I probably just need a break. I love these writing challenges though. I am not yet sure what my plans for June are.....eek that's tomorrow
DeleteThat is a quote most of us could benefit by reading quite often. Congratulations on completing your may writing challenge. I cannot believe June is tomorrow!!
ReplyDeleteThanks friend. And, yes, I agree about the quote
DeleteGlad to have found your blog through the May challenge... look forward to popping back to read more!
ReplyDeleteI think it's good to have to write about what we are Thankful for as it is good to realise that we do have a lot (even when things are hard) (hugs) xx
Thank you Sammi!
DeleteWell I am a glass is half full kind of person. So much so that if it is really only half full I find a smaller glass to make it full. So much about my life is not what I planned but to avoid dwelling on that I focus on the good stuff each time it crosses my radar and in the end I have constant reminders of how good I have it.
ReplyDeleteI am married to a glass is half empty kind of person. It is not the kind of match that works without a lot of work. But even there I see it as a blessing. Good father , good life partner and comes to the plate when the going gets tough. Better than a few true husband duds I have met, so my glass is pretty full regardless of what his glass is. :-)
That is how it is with Richard and me. He always sees the brighter side and helps me to get there!
DeleteThanks goodness you posted this...I was so relaxed and up to my ears in doing nothing, I almost forgot to do the last post of the challenge! I LOVE your quote. It's so true and so easy for me to forget. In our suburban neighborhood there is a lot of excess, so it's easy to focus on what you don't have instead of what we do have. My kids get so caught up in the stuff. They forget to look at what some of their classmates don't have that we do. But when you're a teenager, you take your family and that closeness for granted and "woe is me" about the new iPhone-whatever or Under Armour-whatever or Miss Me-whatever that you don't own. I'm not immune to that either - when my friends are all flying to Cancun for the weekend and I'm stuck here with mom I can be seen sucking my thumb in the corner! Thanks for the reminder, my glass half empty (although I don't completely believe that) friend! Happy June!
ReplyDeleteI love you Lisa! You always bring a smile to my face. And I am going through all that with my granddaughter. I have to remind her where she would be if it weren't for her grandparents stepping in. She's a very lucky girl!
