Peace, Piss and Poop

Here is My A To Z Challenge. An adventure. My attempt at telling you my story. I care for my husband who has end-stage Parkinson's disease.
We have good days and we have bad days. Hope you will follow along....A TO Z!

I spend each day searching for peace.
I wonder if it will ever come.
I'd like to live quietly.
But I don't want to be alone.
Peace is a good thing.
Peace for the world.
Peace for everyone.
It's really not possible, that much I know.
Because it's what life is all about.
Wishing for peace.

Mostly I live with piss and poop.
Not very nice words, I know.
But it is my reality.
A part we are willing to show.
I know a man who wrote a blog
He called it waste management.
I thought that was appropriate.
But I am not really that kind.
To me it is piss.
Or pee, if you wish.
And his is very, very orange.
The medication he takes causes this.
But at least it gathers into a bag.
If I had to deal with incontinence
I would really turn into a hag.
Piss and poop are just part of our life.
Nothing to moan about.
Unless of course there is a problem.
Then we will have to sort it all out.
I'm thankful he's the regular kind.
We haven't had much to deal with here.
And occasional spasm or a UTI.
Are just a part of the game.
Putting this all together,it fits
Piss and Poop if done right
Will bring Peace!
And you may laugh, if you wish

  4. I'm glad I came across this poem. It's a fun way to talk about, well, what probably isn't the most fun of situations. I'm looking forward to follow along on the rest of your A to Z journey!

  5. Hello Paula, thank you for dropping in to my A to Z challenge. I hope that my flowers brought you some joy. This is so obviously not a laughing matter, but I love your poem - sometimes humour is the only thing that gets us through the tough times. All the best to you and your husband.

  6. Had to smile because you are sooooooooooo on the mark. And you're talking about things that if others did they might be better prepared. And you have to keep your spirit up, so why not have a little fun.

  7. How can you not laugh...this new medicine cocktail they have mom on is bringing out the worst from her backside too...luckily, there are nurses to handle it for now. There's my peace! What you do every day is amazing. Like I've said before - even mired in piss and pooh, I love your love story. Hugs and hugs!

  8. You know, I get so sick n' tired of living in a 'politically-correct' world, I LOVED this, tell-it-like-it-is title!
Reflecting on 'peace'? Goodness knows, you deserve it. (That used to be atop my wish list, too. Then again, I suspect I'd grow bored).

    1. We don't do political-correction at our house! Sometimes you will hear my grandkids yelling "Grandma!!!!!"

  9. I like the title waste management, but you are right, it all comes down to piss or poop; that would be hard to deal with especially the infections when they come because sometimes they are insidious and you don't realize its an infection until it is a full blown one.

I am sure it is hard to find peace in the midst of the caregiving duties you do.

    1. I have peace some of the time Betty. It is not all bad. Today a friend dropped by with a huge bouquet of tulips from her yard and brought so much peace with her. Yes the infections are hard. I can usually tell when one is coming...he gets more confused

    Loves these lines very much!
When one gets into accepting life as it is and face it with determination, there is peace all around :)

    1. Thanks KT....I think it helps that I was a nurse first. And it is what any wife would do, don't you think?

  12. I was going to saw that a uti can bring confusion - but your answer to betty shows me that you already know.
I wish other people's attitude was more like yours when it was needed.
This blog is an outlet for you I'm sure. I just came across it - via a URL in a comment you left on another blog.
