Why is standing in line something that tries my patience so much? I don't like standing in line at the grocery store, at the fast food place, at any restaurant, at the department store....or any place else that I can think of. I don't like to go out to eat at normal times, because I have to wait. And I don't like to wait. I don't like to go to places where you have to stand in line to do things: like the State Fair or Disney World. Who doesn't like to go to Disney World? Me, that's who. I am impatient. If I am in the grocery store and there is a line, I will shop more until there isn't a line and I can go right up. I don't like standing in line. And women who stand in line to go to the bathroom? What is that all about. I have HAD to stand in line to go to the bathroom, don't get me wrong. But it is only if I am about to pee in my pants. What are women doing in there? I can go to the bathroom in a public space in under two minutes. Why does it take so many women so long that a line has to form. You almost never see men standing in line in restrooms do you?
I am going to think about how this works. I have to stand in lines sometimes. It is inevitable. I just need to learn how to do it without having a stroke. Standing in line can teach one how to be patient. Lines have a purpose. It means you get waited on in the order that you came into the line. Think how un-fair it would be if while standing in line at a restaurant waiting to be seated, someone came in the door walked ahead of you and got led to a table. That line would erupt and the person that was led to the table might be hung out to dry. So in this case, it is necessary to just stand and wait your turn. The way that I deal with lines in a restaurant is we go out to eat around 4:00 in the afternoon. No lines then. And I shop at the grocery store later in the evening. Two reasons for this. One, I can get away by myself while the kids stay home with Papa. And two there are fewer people so I don't have to stand in line. And when we went to Disney World we used fast passes. (Although there were many times, I didn't think it was any faster than just standing in line in the first place).
So this week I am going to practice patience while waiting in line. Maybe take along my IPOD and listen to some calming music. What do you do when you have to wait in line?
Paula, I hate lines, too! And Disney World? Hate it! I live about 45 mins from Disney and haven't been in about 16 years. I've never taken my boys there, ever. I hate it!
ReplyDeleteWe took the grandkids to Disney a couple of years ago. They loved it. Glad I got the chance to see it. But I am not going back.
DeleteBeing in line doesn't bother me much. I usually sing songs in my head or daydream. Since I bought my iPod, now I will read a book or magazine on it.
ReplyDeleteI admire your patience!
DeleteLines don't really bother me, unless the line next to me is moving faster than me...then I get irate. I usually will look through a magazine (at the store) or I people watch. People are interesting creatures...lol
ReplyDeleteI am a people watcher too! That is what I miss about going places with Richard. We used to love to people watch together.
