A Day in My Life

My life begins early. It is already 'summer' at our house. School was out for us on May 2, 2013. The first order of the day is to wake the grandson at 6:00 because he is taking a weight-lifting class at his high school which is about 15 minutes from our house.

I wake his sister so she can be in the room with Papa in case he needs something.

We jump in the car and head out of town. He sleeps on the way. I carefully watch out for deer as I don't want to hit one and demolish the only car that we have.

I get back home and start the coffee, pick up a load of laundry and unload the dishwasher.

Time to get into the car again and drive the 15 minutes over to pick the boy up as the class is over.

Back home it is time to get my husband up, help him with his toileting needs, into the wheelchair and to the dining room table for his breakfast. Both the kiddos are eating breakfast with him.

Then I take my coffee and go to 'command central' which is my computer desk. I read my email, a few blogs, check out Facebook and see what else we need to do today: kids activites, meals to plans, etc.

It will take Papa one and half to two hours to eat his breakfast and read the paper so I have plenty of time at the computer and folding some of the laundry.

After breakfast, it is almost noon and Richard goes to his recliner in the living room and watches TV while he also snoozes in the chair. The kids are off to their rooms for TV or games or reading. I am at the computer or doing laundry or other housework.

Then comes supper preparations. I menu-plan so that this will be easier (and cheaper) but with so much going on at our house right now (getting a new roof and summer activites) we have been eating out a bit more.

After we eat dinner then we chill out in front of the TV to watch some of our favorite shows. On Tuesdays that is NCIS and NCIS, LA. Darian goes to bed early because he gets up so early. Harley draws and watches TV with us. Then after the news I help Richard get ready for the night, get him settled into his chair and I hang out on the couch, read my Nook color and sleep until morning when we start the process all over again.

  1. Sounds like you have things very organized at Paula's place. I tend to like things that way too. Now that it's just Bill and I I'm more relaxed with my schedule but when the kids were home like you I stuck to a schedule! Enjoyed the pictures Paula. I do wish I had a dishwasher :)

  5. It sucks waking up that early during summer vacation. I am glad that you are able to spend some time doing computer things. I am so ready for some chill evenings. Four more days of school left here. Yay!

    1. Yes it does. But it looks like it will be like that most of the summer. No breaks for granny at this house :)

  6. I can't believe starting the coffee isn't the very first thing you do ;) I can't seem to function without it! Ha! Glad to see a glimpse of your day. I am sure Richard wouldn't want anyone else taking such great care of him!!

    1. Usually I do start with coffee. But I get up only 5 minutes before I jump in the car and head out the door. No time to wait for the coffee to brew!
