When I was in nursing school and during my psychiatric rotation, we would meet after our clinical was over to have what we called a 'post-conference.' In the room would be our instructor, the psychologist, the head nurse from the psych unit and the students. This is where we discussed our patients and asked questions of those who were teaching us.
There was a psychologist at the hospital at that time who's name was Dr. Didlo. He was a nice enough guy. As far as psychologist's go! But, when I was away from the hospital I usually referred to him by another name. Just because I thought it was funny. You can look at his name and use your imagination here. I dare not repeat it.
One particular post conference, Dr. Didlo (I even have to be careful typing it) was the psychologist present. We discussed several things and then it was time for the students to ask questions. I raised my hand and he acknowledged me. I started out by saying "Dr. Dil**...and stopped mid sentence He looked me right in the eye, never changed his facial expression, and told me to continue. To say the very least this is my MOST embarrassing moment ever. Even now, 25 years later, I can still not believe that I called him that.
If you are wondering what other's most embarrassing moments are, then go here.

I probably would have made the same slip up. He probably got that a lot. I had to go back and reread the name the first time, because I thought it said the other word. Great story
ReplyDeleteI imagine that he did. His son was in school with mine and after high school he changed his name to Dawson. Can't blame him!
Deletehaha! Me either!
DeletePriceless!
ReplyDeleteFunny now. Wasn't then!
DeleteSuch an easy slip-up. He must have been used to it and at least was able to maintain his composure.
ReplyDeleteI am sure that he was used to it. Didn't make my humiliation any less painful.
DeleteYes, even reading that, my mind imagined what was going to happen. lol Oh what a story.. :D
ReplyDeleteYep! And I suffered with that through the rest of nursing school.
DeletePoor guy! To have that name, I'm sure he was used to it.
ReplyDeleteHe should have changed his name. His son did after high school. Changed it to Dawson!
DeleteHe should have been really used to it. When I read it the first time you typed it, I thought THAT'S what it said, lol. I can see how easily you could slip up on that one. I would have been the one in the group trying to stifle giggles {like a teenage boy}.
ReplyDeleteLOL! There were plenty in the group that were trying to stifle their giggles.
DeleteThat is way too funny! Sorry to say. But I probably would have made that same mistake, too.
ReplyDeleteThat's what everyone thought! But me! I laugh now, though.
DeleteTHAT IS FREAKIN HILARIOUS! I did a long exhaled laugh when I read that saying, "OH SHE DIDN'T... OH MY GAWD YES SHE DID!"
ReplyDeleteYikes!
Oh Yes I did!
DeleteThat. Is. Classic.
ReplyDeleteYou poor thing, LOL!
Yes it is!
DeleteHell, I would've called him Dildo on purpose!
ReplyDeleteI'll bet you would have! I didn't have the nerve back then!
DeleteHa! As soon as I saw his name, I knew where this was going. I am sure he gets that a lot.
ReplyDeleteProbably. But that didn't help my embarrassment.
DeleteLOL!!!
ReplyDeleteI can laugh about it now!
Deletelol, I'm sorry, but even hearing it again, I crack up. Ooops!
