Piper Turns 10!

Piper Elizabeth turned 10!
I cannot believe she is already into the double digits.
Her parents have always said when she turned 10 she could get her
ears pierced.
So when granny took her on a dinner date
this is what we did.

She was nervous, as you can see, but she did so well. She held granny's hand and squeezed my fingers, but she did not squeeze out one tear. I think I saw them just under the surface, though.
After all this ear piercing was completed and we sent mom on her way home Piper and Grandma went to Lone Star Steakhouse.
We had steaks from 'the big people's menu' and what she couldn't eat she took home in a box for mom!
And here she is at home.

March Photo Challenge-Day 20

Today's prompt was before and after. The top photo is a picture of my fireplace before I painted the inside of it. Three coats of high heat paint.
Very thin, runny paint.
Took me 3 days...one coat per day.
Then I painted the grate.
Below is the 'after' picture.
I have a mirror in the back to reflect the flames.
Candles on the grate.
And that is my St. Patrick's Day Banner.
Maps of Ireland cut into the shape of flags.
And green hearts placed to look like shamrocks.
Got the idea off of Pinterest.
Looks so cosy, don't you think?

March Photo Challenge-Day 19

Seems like I might be picking on Darian this month.
The prompt for this day was 'funny'
He was getting ready for Boy Scouts.
And this is the picture I snapped.
Now that is funny.
F.U.N.N.Y.

March Photo Challenge-Day 18

This day the prompt was 'a corner of your home.'
This is a messy corner.
Putting it on my blog might encourage me to do something about it.
Do you think?
It is our game corner.
And there is my IPOD.
I am getting ready to paint in this room.
This is a little corner of my dining room.
When it is all done I will show you the finished corner.
Promise

March Photo Challenge-Day 17

As St. Patrick's Day
So, of course, today the prompt is 'green'.
Lots of things to show that are green.
But this is one of my favorite plants.
Don't know what it is called.
I have had it around 4 years now.
It is terribly pot-bound.
But I don't care.
It is still pretty.
I take it outside in the summer.
And it gets enormous and much greener.
I love the color.

(Update* it didn't make it through this summer)

March Photo Challenge-Day 16

Another picture I just wanted to save here.
Today's prompt is sunglasses.
I didn't take a picture of sunglasses.
But I did  have this picture stashed away.
It is Darian with the 3-D glasses from church that were handed out
for The Season of Light show at church.
Isn't he just adorable?

March Photo Challenge-Day 15

Ha! Ha!
This makes me smile. Or laugh out loud.
Today's prompt was 'car'
I wanted to take a picture of my car.
But it was raining outside and I wasn't going to pull it out of the garage
just to photograph it in the rain.
Then I remembered taking this picture a few weeks back.
That is my youngest son's car!
But that boy is my grandson.
He had just arrived home from wrestling practice after school.
What a hoot.
He actually walked .5 mile home looking like that.
His practice clothes.
And he didn't take his sneakers that day.
So he just put his boots back on and walked home.
Boys.....they just aren't fashionable.
(I had the camera on that crazy fish-eye setting and didn't notice until
I uploaded)

March Photo Challenge-Day 14

The prompt on this day was clouds.
I wish I could have shown nice puffy white clouds against a background
of beautiful blue skies.
My favorite kind.
But this is all I got.
The whole sky is a cloud.
This is north from my back patio.
And rain too.

March Photo Challenge-Day 13

March 13....the prompt for this day was 'a sign'
This is the sign that I chose.
It is subway art.
I love subway art.
Every month (or holiday) I change this sign.
It sits in my entry way.
I found this at the blog I Should Be Mopping the Floors

March Photo Challenge Day 12

Okay, Okay, so I am far behind. I am going to catch these up today.
March 12...the prompt was fork.
This is a picture of a small Donald Duck fork.
It belonged to my oldest son when he was small.
There is a Mickey Mouse spoon too.
My grand kids like to take this set out once in awhile to eat with.
They like knowing that their daddy ate from these when he was small.

You ain't Abe Linclon

So I said to him, "Barack, I know Abe Lincoln, and you ain't Abe Lincoln."

......Abraham Lincoln

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.

March Photo Challenge March 11

Today's prompt was
'someone you talked to today'
This is Paige.
She is designing a shirt for her stuffed horse.
I talked to her about using the sewing machine.
Think there are a couple of budding fashion designers here.

March 10 Photo Challenge

Photo challenge prompt for Saturday March 10 was
"LOUD"
Had two pre-teen grand daughters here all day.
Need I say more?

March Photo Challenge Day 8

March 9 Photo Challenge.
The prompt was 'red'.
This is a ring we made from a red tee shirt.
And take a look at those cool confetti nails.
You rock this girl.

Photo Challenge Day 8

It is March Photo Challenge

Join us this month, with Fat Mum Slim ,for the March Photo Challenge.
This is my favorite room in my whole house...
We call it the puzzle room.
And this gorgeous window is my pride and joy.

Photo challenge Day 7

Yesterday's photo challenge had the prompt
"something you wore"
Ha! Ha!
There is no way that I am going to take of picture of myself in something I wore.
That is just not me!
So in this basket of clothes waiting to be folded is
"Something I wore"

Photo Challenge-Day 6

Today's prompt for our March Photo Challenge was 5p.m.
Well this was what was going on at my house at 5p.m.
A big salad with lettuce, tomatoes, croutons and black beans.
Yummy!

Photo Challenge Day 5

LOL!
Today's prompt for the March Photo Challenge is 'smile'.
Well here is Papa.
The love of my life.
And what a special smile that is.
He is so cute.
Head on over to  Fat Mum Slim for the March Photo Challenge

Photo Challenge Day 4

I am catching up!
Yesterday's photo prompt was bedside.
There is what is next to my bed. My little table that holds my necessaries.
Boy that carpet looks terrible.
Want to rip it out and put in nice hardwood floors.
Maybe someday.
On my table is a stack of books.
But I hardly ever read a book anymore.
You see that pretty lime green thing there?
That is my Nook Color.
The best Christmas present I have ever gotten.
Justin got it for me Christmas 2010.
And it is never far away from me.
I can read, play games, surf the net.......love of my life.
Also always a bottle of water.
Some Ambesol for when a toothache might strike at night.
Bottle of Melatonin for sleep.
Radio (hardly ever use)
And that my friend is my bedside table.

March Photo Challenge Day 3

Today is day 3 of the March Photo Challenge
hosted by Fat Mum Slim . If you want to play along hurry and catch up.
Todays' prompt was 'your neighborhood'.
When I think about our neighborhood, I always think about this house.
When we moved here almost 25 years ago this was the property you could see when you looked out my front window.
But it sure didn't always look like this.
You see, it used to be a really run down flat-top house.
As the years went by there were a variety of renters who lived there.
Some good people and some not so good people.
Then the house fell to ruins.
The roof partially collapsed.
The rain came it.
The rooms molded.
You could smell the mold from the street.
Rabbits, possums, skunks, birds......
they all took up residence.
This is a lovely neighborhood with nice houses.
This was our 'sore thumb'.
Many of us called the city and complained.
Didn't seem that anyone listened.
Then a few years ago, the property was purchased.
The first thing the new owners did was put on this fabulous new roof.
That probably cost more than the whole house was worth.
They are doing all the work themselves.
Still no one lives there, but they are there nearly everyday.
Someday this house will be the jewel of the neighborhood.
Makes me want to go out and buy some paint and start to spruce up.
Wish I had a before picture.

Photo A Day Challenge-Day 2

Today's prompt was fruit.....
These are mandarin oranges.
I have never bought Mandarin oranges in this form before.
Usually buy them in a can.
And we love them that way.
Well, not all of us.
My husband hates oranges of any kind.
They remind him of his childhood.
He was raised in the 1930's-1940's.
His mother felt children needed to be 'regular' if you know what I mean.
So, he said, every Saturday, just before their weekly bath, his mom
would give out a giant spoonful of Castor Oil and
then hand them each half an orange to suck on to get rid of
the nasty oily taste in their mouth.
Can you imagine?
He won't touch an orange in any way, shape, or form.
But the grand kids have certainly enjoyed these little
Mandarin Oranges.
And I love the color they bring to the table.
