The simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY ...
August 31, 2009

Outside my window...
The sky is overcast and it is a cool 69F. It feels like fall is in the air.
I am thinking...
that summer didn't last near long enough, but then I think that every year.

I am thankful for...
what I have.

From the kitchen......
yesterday we used some of our tomato harvest and made salsa..a bit warm but ever so good

I am wearing...

what I wear on Mondays...my scrubs

I am creating...
a storage area for the things I need to move out of the house.

I am going...
to work soon.

I am reading...
Well I gave up for now on Robert Ludlum...just too deep. So I am reading two books:
'Gift from the Sea' by Anne Morrow Lindbergh
and
'Small Vices' by Robert B Parker

I am hoping...
that I can get this deep cleaning started soon and my house in order

I am hearing...
All My Children in the background

Around the house...
there is much to do as I want to do a deep clean on every room before winter arrives.

One of my favorite things...
is a clean house....all at the same time.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
I work on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Darian has an appointment on Thursday morning.

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

I am thankful for...
the public school system

From the kitchen...
today will be fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn on the cob

I am wearing...
jeans, black V neck tee with a white tee under...

I am creating...
a plan in my head for the rest of this wonderful day

I am going...
to the nursing home soon for an inservice on dementia

I am reading...
the Robert Ludlum book posted in my upper left corner...it is big...I will be reading it for sometime to come.

I am hoping...
the kids have a great first day of school

I am hearing...
blessed silence.

Saturday Nine

I Ran

Welcome to Saturday: 9 . What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

1. When's the last time you ran? It has been too many years to remember the last time I ran. I can't think of anything important enough for me to run for. Even for a Code Blue I only walk fast not run

2. Do your jeans have rips, tears, and holes in them? No, I am 58 years old and I find that tacky!

3. What are you dreading right now? Right now...answering the rest of these questions unless they improve.

4. Do you like Mexican food? Yep

5. Favorite ice cream? Vanilla

6. When was your last doctor's visit? Hmmm a couple of years ago.....or so

7. Do you get the full 8 hours of sleep a night? Never

8. How many pets do you have? none unless you count the goldfish and the sucker fish

9. "First Loves Are Never Over;" is this true for you? Nope I am so over my first love!!!!

Stepping out of My comfort Zone

I am going to be stepping out of my comfort zone with the type of books that I am reading. Yesterday I picked up one of my husband's books by Robert Ludlum. It is called 'The Bancroft Strategy'. Very long, and looks deep so will take me awhile I am sure, as I only read a few pages at night before I fall asleep. I will let you know how it goes.

The Simple Woman's Daybook.

FOR TODAY...

August 17, 2009

Outside my window...

It is dark and the stars are shining. It is nearly bedtime as I prepare this for
tomorrow.

I am thinking....

I am thinking how unbelievable it is that shcool is once again starting.
For this year it will be:
Kelsi, a junior
Darian, a 6th grader
Paige and Harley will be in 4th grade
Piper will go to 2nd grade
Willow will attend another year of pre-school (although I know she
will be the smartest one there)
Tucker will stay home with mommy a few more years.
And Katie has decided to sit out a year before she starts to college.

I am thankful for.........

I am thankful that we have what we have and that we are managing
okay.

From the kitchen....

This weekend we made 2 loaves of zucchini bread and 24 cupcakes.

I am wearing.....

I am wearing my pj's as I am headed to bed.

I am creatin
g....

This weekend I taught the girls how to make friendship bracelets.
And even the boy made some.

I am going..........

I am going to miss the kids when they start school. (well a tiny bit anyway)

I am reading....

Finally, I finished 'Abbreviating Ernie' I guess I will start a
Danielle Steel book tonight. I need to go to the bookstore.
You know that when I resort to Danielle.

I am hoping.....

I am hoping some good hot weather returns.

I am hearing....

I am hearing the hum of the fan and the soft breathing of a
sleeping grandson.

Around the house...
My Housework
The laundry is piled high.
Dishes are stacked to the sky.
I'm out of everykind of soap.
I guess I have no hope.

There's dust from door to door.
And dirt all over the floor.
Wy should I dust anyway.
When the sweeper broke today.
I won't let it ruin my fun.
Since I didn't get my work done.
We'll all go out to dinner tonight.
I'm sure everything will be alright.

Author unknown.

A few plans for the rest of the week:

I will work on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Doctor and hair appointment
on Tuesday.
Paige will stay on Thursday.

A beach, the sun, and I am happy

Anyone who knows me really well knows what will make me happiest! This is to continue
the happiness challenge proposed by One Gal's Musings.
I love the beach.
I love the sun!
I love the heat!
If I could live my life all over again I would be a beach bum.
I can't think of anything that would make me happier than a shack on the beach
(like the one above) and make my living anyway that I could.
Oh the dreams....that is what makes me happy.

For the love of Music

What makes me happy today? What makes me happy is my Ipod Nano that my hubby bought me a couple of years ago. I am still just blown away by how something as small as this thing
can hold all that music. Right now I have more than 400 songs on my Ipod. My favorite thing to do is when I mow the yard or pull weeds is to put in the ear plugs and crank the music up and work away. Sometimes when my son is sleeping over and my bedroom is taken (read that to say I cannot keep the TV on all night) I listen to my Ipod all night. It helps me to sleep better.
I just wish that I could figure out a way to upload music from the computer without having to pay for it at I-Tunes.........

If you want to tell me what makes you happy or join in this Happiness Challenge, then go check out the post at One Gal's Musings that got me started.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY
August 10, 2009

Outside my window...
The sky is dark as the storm clouds gather. Today the air is still. The humidity is very high and the current temp is 83F.

I am thinking...
I am thinking today may not be a good day at the nursing home. I sure hope we do not have to evacuate to the basement.

I am thankful for...
I am thankful for my job but I sure do wish the drama there would die down.

From the kitchen...
We have been eating from the garden.....tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini and peppers.

I am wearing...
My scrubs as today is a working day.

I am creating...
I am creating nothing at the moment.

I am going...
I am going to work soon....4th day in a row and I am ready for a day off.

I am reading....
I am still reading Abbreviating Ernie and I will be glad when I am finished with it.

I am hoping...
I am hoping there are no severe storms here today.

I am hearing...
I am hearing 'Spongebob' in the background. Ewwww....not a fan.

Around the house...
After working four days in a row I have piles of laundry to do tomorrow while I am off.

One of my favorite things...
BLT'S with fresh tomatoes from the garden.

A few plans for the rest of the week:

Sunday Stealing

Today we ripped this meme off a blogger known as Tattooed Minivan Mom from the blog The Scattered Mind of a Tattooed Minivan Mom. She explains that she got it from Janana Bee. It appears Jana might have actually written this meme. But, it could have stolen there as well. So, of course, that will be as far as we go. Tracing back our theft's thieves might take some time. Link back to us at Sunday Stealing!

Cheers to all us thieves!

Pass the chips please

I am here once again for the August Happiness Challenge from One Gals Musings.

Something that I turn to anytime I want to feel happy is a bag of chips with a carton of sour
cream. I know, I know! Shouldn't use food to make myself happy but this is a taste
that can turn a bad mood into a good mood here at my house.
I love the salty taste of a chip dipped into plain sour cream!
Ummm...
Makes me smile just thinking about some.

You see, today I have been married 13 years.
We will celebrate being together 31 years!
I couldn't decide if he was the right man for me so we had a long engagement (and lived together) for 18 years first.
Happy Anniversary Richard.

Thursday Thunks

Welcome to the August 6th version of Thursday Thunks!
(which we always seem to post on Wednesday)
Where we make you think a little bit before you blog!
This week we will answer some crazy questions brought to you by Berleen, the number 1 and the color of the crap under your shoe.

1. What the hell were you thinking? That's the problem...I wasn't thinking!

2. The tornado sirens go off in your neighborhood - what do you do? First I panic...then I hustle up everyone to go to the smallest room in the house with no outside windows...which is the closet in our master bedroom....then I panic

3. Give us a recipe.
See next post for recipe.

4. It's the middle of the night, there isn't a car in sight and you are stuck at a red light that just won't change.... how long do you wait until you run it?
Depends on how long it stays red...I have been known to run a red light or two when they take forever to change.

5. When was the last time you got all dressed up fancy-like? Where did you go?
OMG...I would say that it has been more than 3 years ago when we were on a cruise.

6. Have you ever had a mole removed?
Yes

7. Are you in an area of record highs or record lows for the temps this summer? Are you lucky and stuck in the middle where it's somewhat normal?
We have had both record highs and record lows and all I want is summer.

8. When was the last time you changed your furnace filter?
Never that is my hubby's job to do

9. What's your favorite type of frog?
No frog is my favorite...maybe Kermit

10. If you were to go on America's Got Talent, what would you do for your talent? (and choosing not to go is not an option....)
But I want to chose not to go cause I don't have any of those kinds of talent. I can be a great grandma though.

11. Have you ever been on a rooftop of a building?
Yes I have been on the roof of the longest grain elevator in Kansas...was pretty dang scary too.

12. What is the first website you go to each day when you sit down at your computer, other than your email?
Facebook

Suggest and I will Read

Another day of the happiness challenge started by The Gal over at One Gal's Musings.
Books make me really happy.
Yes they do!
I have been reading books since way, way back in grade school.
I loved to read then and I still love to read.
I have read all of the Nancy Drew books.
Then when I got older I started reading my mom's copy of the Better Home and Gardens Medical Book. Must have known then that I would someday be in the medical profession. Although what I wanted to grow up to be was the girl that sold cookies at the grocery store!
I love to ready mystery. I love to read suspense. I love biographies and autobiographies.
And novels of any kind.
Some of my favorite authors are James Patterson, Jodi Piccoult, Dean Koontz. I have read
a lot of Stephen King but he has gotten pretty weird . Or maybe I am just not that into him anymore.
I will read anything that captures me on the first page.
Not a big Sci-Fi fan though.
Any book suggestions will be considered.

Ah my swimming pool

Here we are again with the August Happiness Challenge.
You can blog hop over to One Gal's Musings to check out
The Gal who started this month of Happiness

Something that always makes me happy, especially in the summertime, is my swimming pool.
It is an Intex above ground pool. We inflate the top and then start filling with water and
it starts to rise. It is 18 feet round and 48 inches deep. Plenty of room for all the grand kids when
they are here with us. And a wonderful place for me to just relax and float around when
they aren't here. One of my favorite things to do is put on my swimsuit with a pair of shorts over the top and go do my gardening and yard work. Then when I am so hot I can't take another
second of it, off comes the shorts and into the pool for a cool dip. I sure get a lot more done outside doing it that way.
I would highly recommend an Intex pool to anyone who wants a pool in their backyard without
the expense. It is awesome.

A Tree and a Fly

This is my second day of the August Challenge.
Go to One Gal's Musings if you want to participate
or see what makes her and others happy.

Today I took my grandson to his therapist and she was doing some simple psych tests on him.
She asked him to remember 4 objects, subtract 7 from 100 and on down, how are a ball and an orange alike; how are a table and a chair alike, etc. Then she asked "can you tell me how a tree and a fly are alike?"
Without missing a beat his answer was............
"Neither of them can talk!"
It made her and me both laugh.
She said no one had ever answered that way before.

Today I found happiness

I am not the most positive person you will every know and I sometimes need a kick in the pants
to make me see the things that make me happy. While visiting one of my favorite blogs today, Driven to Distraction, I found a post about a challenge going on for the month of August. I am up for the challenge. Go on over the One Gal's Musings and find out what it is all about. The rules are simple.

Forget Your Troubles! C'mon, Get Happy!
Here's a brief explanation of the Challenge: "Each day in August you are to post about something that makes *you* happy. Pretty simple. And, it doesn't even have to be every day if you don't want it to be. It's a great way to remind ourselves that there are positive things going on in our lives, our communities, and the world."

If you play along, let The Gal know .

August 2, 2009

Today I found happiness in making water balloons with three of my grand kids.
I knew that as soon as I started I would get wet. They had me filling them and tying them
off and of course some of the water got on granny. But then the fun started when granny threw the first one at Darian and it landed solidly. The war was on. To hear their laughter makes me smile even now.
