22. How much did you change from this time last year till now? I lost my two best friends in 2008 so I think I have gotten more into taking one day at a time and each day to it's fullest because you never know when it will be your last

It's all about the Ice Cream
From a teacher in the Nashville area
W e are worried about "the cow" when it is all about the "Ice Cream"
The most eye-opening civics lesson I ever had was while teaching third grade this year. The presidential election was heating up and some of the children showed an interest. I decided we would have an election for class president. We would choose our nominees. They would make a campaign speech and the class would vote. To simplify the process, candidates were nominated by other class members. We discussed what kinds of characteristics these students should have. We got many nominations and from those, Jamie and Olivia were picked to run for the top spot. The class had done a great job in their selections. Both candidates were good kids. I thought Jamie might have an advantage because he got lots of parental support. I had never seen Olivia's mother. The day arrived when they were to make their speeches Jamie went first. He had specific ideas about how to make our class a better place. He ended by promising to do his very best. Every one applauded. He sat down and Olivia came to the podium. Her speech was concise. She said, "If you will vote for me, I will give you ice cream." She sat down. The class went wild.
"Yes! Yes! We want ice cream".
She surely would say more. She did not have to. A discussion followed. How did she plan to pay for the ice cream? She wasn't sure. Would her parents buy it or would the class pay for it. She didn't know. The class really didn't care. All they were thinking about was ice cream. Jamie was forgotten.
Olivia won by a landslide.
Every time Barack Obama opens his mouth he offers ice cream,
Seventy five percent of the people react like nine year olds. They want ice cream. The other twenty five percent know they're going to have to feed the cow and clean up the mess.

My #6 Simple Woman's Day Book

Please visit Peggy if you want to do this with me
Outside my window...
It is a very cold, grey day. The wind gusts are 25 mph and fallen leaves will still
ocasionally dance through the yard. Our tempeture here today is only 6F and it
is already noon.
I am thinking...
How many things need done and I relaxed I feel about it right now. Not like the
past years when panic is starting to hit. I decided this year I will just let go of all
that. We did not even put up the tree this year..and the shopping is going to be
mostly gift cards....so I feel pretty good right now.
I am thankful for...
My youngest son...he is such a good man and I am happy that he has become the
man that he is.
From the kitchen...
there is nothing going on today. I ate a toasted cheese sandwhich from Schwan's
(have you ever tasted them?) I have to work today so I will plan a good dinner
for tomorrow
I am wearing...what else?
my scrubs.....I always work on Mondays
I am creating...
Nothing right now....
I am going...
to get a box of apples and oranges to take to the nursing home for my co-
workers and the elders to share
I am reading...
The Tenth Circle by Jodi Piccoult
I am hoping...
It gets warmer here in Kansas soon
I am hearing...
All My Children in the background
Around the house...
things are peaceful
One of my favorite things..
sending Santa Letters to my grandkids
.A few plans for the rest of the week:
More of the same...
I am off Tuesday, work Wednesday, off Thursday, work Friday and off
the weekend.
Here is my picture thought I am sharing:

(May you all find peace)

Tag, I'm It!

1. I am addicted to CSI....I have been since it started...I am off on Thursday and this is the one show that I do not want to miss. No one is to call or come over at 8-9 p.m. on Thursday's. If I could do something else, career wise, I want to be a CSI!
my favorite time of the year....Yeah bring on the sun

3. Everyone who knows me know that I am addicted to my grandkids.
I used to snicker at those women who would talk on and on and on
about their grandkids....my gosh they need to get a life. And then mine
started coming and talk, talk, talk is what I do. Or I just happen to have
a few hundred pictures is you want to see how cute they are..And there
is always a cute story to tell...so to my sweeties...Katie, Kelsi, Darian, Paige,
Harley, Piper, Willow, and Tucker...granny loves you!

4. Yep like most of you I am addicted to coffee...have to have a cup as soon
as I get up in the morning. Sometime back I discovered french vanilla coffee
mate and can't get along without it. I am going to attempt to lose some
weight this next year so I might have to go back to black coffee and only
have this as a treat but right now it is in every cup of coffee I drink. I love it!

5. And last but not least is books....I have lots. I never read them more than
once. I try to pass them on to others. But I love to read. Every night before
I go to sleep I read. I cannot just sit and watch TV: I have to sit and watch
and read. I also love magazines. Even though I know I can read them on-line
it is not the same as sitting and flipping through a magazine...

Santa was very busy at this house tonight...You see there are 6 little ones that still "believe" and every year they get a special letter from Santa....so he had to carefully check the list and look at it again and make sure all the letters were ready to go so that Papa Claus can take them off to the post office to be mailed tomorrow....oh how happy they are when their special letters arrive........Santa's watching you Paige, Darian, Harley, Piper, Willow, and Tucker....

Today I was surprised to receive this award from my wonderful "adopted" daughter Heather over at Heathers Heavinly Stampations.....and here are the rules:
This blog invests and believes the PROXIMITY- nearness in space, time and relationships. These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement . Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers. Deliver this award to 8 bloggers who may then pass it on.
I do not consider myself creative at all but I have found quite a few blogs that I think deserve this award and here they are:
1. Charlie and Me
Charlie and Me was one of the first blogs that I found when I started to blog. She was taking us on a tour of apple orchards and her writing made me feel as if I was actually on the trip with her.
2. Driven to Distraction
I love this blog! Nurseexec is so honest and really blogs about things that are happening to her in her life with such honesty and humor.
3. Ladybug Farm
This blog is just so "natural, simple, plain, and honest" That's why I like it
4. The Road Less Traveled
This beautiful young woman has a story to tell....her young marriage has really faced a challenge from it's very beginning...go read her story.
5. Keeper of the Cheerios
Here is another young lady who fascinates me...she is so young in years but so grown up. I love her blog. And she has some fantastic reviews and give-aways!
6. The Tubb Family
I found this blog by finding Simply Joy Catering and got acquainted with a neat lady named Joy....I like reading about her life and her family at The Tubb Family.
7. 4:53

I received this from a friend today and want to share

Getting older:
lf for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn't need, but looks so avante garde on my patio. I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant.
I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging.
Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 AM and sleep until noon?
I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60&70's, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love ......... I will.
I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set.
They, too, will get old.
I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And I eventually remember the important things.
Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when somebody's beloved pet gets hit by a car? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect.
I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver
As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don't question myself anymore. I've even earned the right to be wrong.
So, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I! am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day. (If I feel like it)
MAY OUR FRIENDSHIP NEVER COME APART ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART! MAY YOU ALWAYS HAVE A RAINBOW OF SMILES ON YOUR FACE AND IN YOUR HEART FOREVER AND EVER!

Always Remember to forget
The things that made you sad.
But never forget to remember
The things that made you glad.
Always remember to forget
The friends that proved untrue.
But don't forget to remember
Those that have stuck by you.
Always remember to forget
The troubles that have passed away.
But never forget to remember
The blessings that come each day.
Tonight I am so sad......

Oh I feel so sad. So sad and so emotionally wiped out. And on top of that it is the Christmas season and it is always sad for me at this time of the year. When I got to work today I discovered that one of my residents had passed away over the weekend. She was only 58 years old. 58 YEARS OLD! That is only a few months older than I am right now. Too young to die. And too senseless! She had been in our nursing home for almost two years now....she was an MS patient that could not be taken care of any longer in her home by her husband and children....too busy! Anyway, she had become part of our family and her death at such a young age just seems so senseless to me. What is the point in all of it, I ask? She has left a huge void on my unit and I grieve for her......

Did you witness this site Monday December 2, 2008
This picture above was taken at my house on Monday December 2, 2008

Taken in Manilla, Phillippines
December 2, 2008—The heavens smiled down on Earth Monday in a rare celestial trifecta of Venus, Jupiter, and the moon.
The planets aligned—an event known as a conjunction—Sunday night, and were joined by a thin sliver of moon on Monday.
(Related: "Sky Show December 1: Jupiter, Venus, Moon Make 'Frown'" [December 1, 2008].)
The rare planetary meeting was visible from all parts of the world, even from light-polluted cities such as Hong Kong and New York.
People in Asia witnessed a smiley face (above, photographed from Manila, Philippines), while skywatchers in the United States saw a frown.
The three brightest objects in the sky were so tightly gathered that one could eclipse them with a thumb, according to NASA's Web site.
The next visible Venus-Jupiter conjunction will be on the evening of March 14, 2012, but the two planets will appear farther apart in the sky.

For many years we had a real tree...it was a family tradition to load up and lots of us went so there was always a caravan..we travelled to a little town about 60 miles away to a Christmas tree farm got the old saws out and went home with 6-8 trees tied to the top of the truck...we then gathered at someones house for supper...but the year my husband was going in for his 5 vessel bypass heart surgery I said "enough of this crap" and we bought ourselves a prelit artificial tree and it is beautiful and I am not picking needles out of the carpet all year long.
3. When do you put up the tree?
