June's First Life List

Outside my window...

Happy June! It is summer here already. Has been for quite a few days. I think we completely skipped spring. It is a bright sunny day and the temperature is already 91* We also have a humidity of 57% I love summer. However my A/C has been running for days and the bills will not be pretty!

Pondering..

It seems I spend a lot of time pondering these days. Less time doing. I am going to try to turn that around today. I have my list and I am getting ready to tackle a few things. I already crossed off the BIG one...pay bills. I love that moment my checking account looks so rich and them BOOM it is depleted.

Watching...

I have gotten back to watching Grey's Anatomy on Netflix and I have a list of other shows I want to start on. Some of the ones on my list are: 1)13 Reasons Why #2,2)The West Wing, and 3)Sons of Anarchy. What are your favorites? Do you binge watch?

Reading...

I have just finished two good books. I will review them soon. I think I also have another audio book to tell you about. I listened to it for Book Club. Currently I am listening to Love Lives Here:Finding What You Need in a World Telling You What You Want. It is our July Book selection. It's non-fiction, which is not my usual genre, so I find listening to these types better. I haven't decided yet what to start reading. What are you reading or listening to?

Creating...

Time to create the summer mantle. I usually do a flag theme in June which will take me through the 4th of July. And then I finish the summer with just a generic summer theme. Stay turned. I'll post pictures when I'm done! Do you decorate seasonly?

Learning...

Oh the lessons I am learning! My nest is once again empty. I find it much harder this time. I'm not sure why. Maybe because it is just me left in the nest. And I really don't know what to do with myself at this moment. But, I'll get it figured out. I hope!

Planning....

Oh the plans I have.

“Think left and think right and think low and think high.
Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!”

Dr. Seuss

What's in the kitchen...

It's salad and sandwich season! Horray! I never stop eating salads and sandwiches. But this is the season, isn't it? My cook top is not working (always something) so there is my excuse to not cook. P. S. I will get it fixed soon!

A quote to share...

A final thought...

Our political scene doesn't get better. I am embarrassed, at times, to be American and have to claim this is my President. But I have hope. And hope is what we need. This can't last forever.

Also, today was Darian's last day in the Army. He is on his way to Tennessee to be with his lady and his brand new baby, Ivory Taylor. Praying for him to find a job quickly and have a good start to the next chapter of his life. (Hope to visit him SOON)

  1. We loved Sons of Anarchy ... a LOT! WARNING: It gets pretty gruesome but we couldn't seem to tear ourselves away from it. I'm not watching any TV right now ... too nice outside. Yes, this political scene is a nightmare. I'm glad I can escape the news most days. I feel powerless. But I can vote!

    1. Voting is about all we can do about the situation. I wonder if we will ever know the real story!

  2. We have elections coming up and the candidates are trying to outscore each other on the stupid scale. How did this happen?

  3. Hey Paula! Happy June 1 back to you. Oh my goodness!!! West Wing!!!! I loved that show. I didn't get to see it much when it was on because I was too tired at the time of day it was on. So... a few years back I binge-watched the entire series in an embarrassingly short period of time. That is the only thing I have binge-watched. My favorite episode (of all time) was Two Cathedrals. Dang. Good series. I don't do a lot of seasonal decorating, but I do have outdoor flags for many seasons/holidays.

  4. Hi Paula! I watched every single Sons Of Anarchy. Be prepared to watch with one eye open, but it was one good series. Almost done in a Shakespeare like fantasy. If you can get through the first 3 you can get through it all. Hope all is well!

  5. I don't miss TV, so that's not a problem. I pulled a book from the case I put books in when I've read them. It's a classic; I don't recall a work. I'm still thinking up things, I guess. Remember to vote. Encourage people to vote. Encourage youngsters to register and vote!

  6. I love that quote. It spoke to me today.

We have a primary coming up next week. Should be interesting.

  7. That's great Darian will be able to be closer to his daughter and make plans for this next stage in his life. I do hope you get a visit soon! It would be hard to have the empty nest and try to adjust to it; but I'm thinking you'll find a way hopefully soon! Right now I'm finishing watching The Fosters (binge watching) on Netflix. I'm trying to see if I can go cold turkey and not start another series, but I'm thinking I don't have that much self discipline. I'm currently reading Jodi Picoult's Small Great Things that I e-borrowed from the library (love that option). Its been fascinating so far.

    1. That was a good book. Fits into our current times, doesn't it? Sad!

  8. Sons Of Anarchy - yes I bingged watched that show and loved it. I might watch it again. The West Wing is also great, but prepared to be disappointed - because the difference between the TV administration and our current administration is like the difference between solar systems.

And I get the thinking vs doing mentality. I am doing that as well. Slowing down. I am so glad I have the smaller condo to take care of - that townhouse would have done me in - it was too big. The condo is also less expensive. We have saved so much more money by living smaller.

    1. I don't think there is anything like our current administration. Thank God! But it will be a story to be told one day.

  9. Having an empty nest is not an easy adjustment, but one I've successfully accomplished. Thankfully some of my family do live close by and that helps immensely. I have watched all the shows you mentioned except for the Sons of Anarchy and enjoyed them all. We too have had very hot days but today we are getting brief reprieve, it's barely going to reach 70 degrees. Good thing to think things over before making any big decisions on what to do. The main thing to remember is to do what makes you happiest. I do decorate seasonally and even though it's more work than I want to do, it's good to keep busy. I've done it since the kids were small and it's a habit of sorts that I really love to do. I love the quotes today especially Dr. Suisse, he is a favorite of mine.

    1. I successfully accomplished it the first time as well. This time is a bit harder. I think it is because this time I am alone. We are having beautiful weather here too! Good for garage cleaning.

  11. I will be keeping Darian and his family in my prayers. Embrace your empty nest and take care of you for a change. I hope Harley finds independence all she hopes for but I have a feeling, that like all of us experienced, reality is going to hit hard.

  12. I recently binge watched Gilmore Girls & Hart Of Dixie, neither of which I'd seen before. Now I'm re-watching Monk. I loved that show when it was on and was very sad when it ended. I'm loving it just as much this time.

  13. YAY for Darian's new chapter! I'm surprised he was able to leave the service so soon -- seems like so soon, that is. We're not following anything in particular on TV; I'm even getting sick and tired of Steve Harvey. (lol!) I can't believe DISH dropped ABC, just when I was getting re-hooked on Grey's and Chicago Med.

  14. Just yesterday I binged on How I Met Your Mother. It's funny to watch the early episodes, because the show started before binge-watching was a thing, and now that it's over, I notice inconsistencies! But my favorite to binge-watch is Cougar Town. I love it. It's light and funny, with a great cast.

I have not been reading much lately, but I am blogging more - and therefore reading more blogs!

  15. I have started watching Greys Anatomy. I'm on season 2 and am enjoying it a lot! Sons of Anarchy is good but graphic! I would never say I'm embarrassed to be American but I am embarrassed by this current government. Good grief! I hope we only have 3 more years to go with this clown!

  16. Yes an empty nest takes some getting used to, especially when you're on your own. It sounds like you are staying on top of things though, paying bills, sorting our the cooker. I think our nest is finally empty for the last time. The kids are all in their own places now, and all with a baby to keep them busy! I love Greys Anatomy and have watched it as it's been released. West Wing I watched from time to time but then the entire box set was on sale on DVD some years back and we watched that from start to finish over a period of time. Not seen Sons of Anarchy. I find listening to books hard - I tend to fall asleep. Maybe the trick is to be listening while doing something else, but then I might lose the plot! You should try a Baldacci book. I think he's really good. As for decorating. My whole house feels like it needs decorating and now the nest is empty I have no excuse for putting it off any longer!

  17. I was watching Call the Midwife or some such program on Netflix, and Once Upon a Time:) Hope you get used to your empty nest and embrace it...it will take awhile to get in the groove. I hope Darian finds a job soon...seems like only yesterday he went in the Army and now he is out .
