Currently: A Life List

Outside my window...

Summer is here! It is hot and humid in the great state of Kansas. That means I stay inside more. That means the A/C runs more. That means more money......But I'm thankful for the A/C I have. Today the skies are clear. It is windy...not bad! The current temp is 88* The humidity is 45%.This is what the rest of the month of June will look like.
Pondering..

What are your thoughts on our President and North Korea? I think it was a VERY expensive photo op for both of them. I wonder how many North Korean people could have been fed this past week just with the funds that both countries spent to have this photo op. Did anything come from it? I guess to borrow some of the famous words of Trump: 'we will see.'

Watching...

I am not watching as much on TV. I am watching birds. We have the Orioles back at the jelly feeders. I have yet to see a hummingbird. We have lots of robins bouncing around on the ground. And I've seen a few Blue jays. And then there are the squirrels. Those little devils are so fun to watch. Not as many in my backyard as there have been in years past. That is because my neighbors to the north are putting out oodles of corn on the cob for them to eat. They run through my yard on their way North.

Reading...

I'm still reading Love Lives Here by Bob Goff for my book club at the end of June. I do a chapter a day. I'm also listening to Killman Creek by Rachel Caine. This is the second book after StillHouse Lake which I reviewed here last week. Loving these books. Good, solid thrillers.

Creating...

In honor of Flay Day today I finished my mantle decorating. I will leave it up until after July 4th!

What's in the kitchen...

One of the things that is nice about living alone is you get to eat whatever YOU want, whenever you want. And that's what I have been doing. I still try to have a somewhat loose meal plan. But I'm really, really flexible.

A quote to share...

Uh huh

A final thought...

About the ring on the finger above. They started out calling it a 'promise ring'. Whatever that means. And before the day was over it became an engagement ring. I'm hoping she will finish school before she starts worrying about planning a wedding. But she's living the adult life now.
Who knows??

  1. I'm not watching much tv either, other than binge watching Monk. I love this show, he's hilarious! It's just as good as when I watched it before!

    I love your mantel decoration.

I pretty much eat like you do. Whatever & whenever.

    That's such a cute baby!

Congratulations to the newly engaged couple!

  3. Happy Flag Day. Wow! Lights and all on the mantle! Very cheery. I still haven't seen the breakdown of the cost of the summit... I know what the cost was for Singapore. Very expensive two days.

    1. It will be very expensive. And yet it will be supported.

  4. Wow, that's a sudden engagement. Or is it?

If you want some summer TV recommendations, I have them. Well, one. It just started, and I think I may become obsessed.

  5. It is a pretty ring! I do agree, hope she does finish school and "lives" a bit before getting married and "settling down." That must be fun to watch all the birds and squirrels scampering around your yard, even if the squirrels are just passing through :) Ivory is so adorable! So bright eyed!

    1. I do too Betty. But, I am not sure that she will. At that age, they are so much smarter than us. I remember!

  6. The Korea trip was all theater. Anyone who knows history knows that North Korea has not changed in decades - and won't change with this leader either. He has put great effort into developing the countries nuclear power - and NOW he decides to give it up!! Not a chance. And we are being lead my such an immature self centered individual who just wants to upstage Obama - that is all he wants to do. No, we are still in scary times and there are no real adults in charge. And even if we manage to rid that country of nuclear arms - the knowledge of how to do it will still be there. You can't unring the bell. They are a nuclear power just by the fact they know how to do it. Very very scary.

    1. Yes, it is! But even more scary, to me, is how many Americans can still claim to follow this nutcase!

  7. There are advantages to living alone. I'm afraid, I've become very spoiled and even though it was hard at first, I do enjoy it. It's also nice being retired and doing what I want when I want instead of being on a schedule. I have been watching less TV. I like to be out side even if it's on the sunporch and there is no tv there, but always something good to see. The squirrels here can be entertaining. I'm not looking forward to the heat and humidity that will drive me indoors where it is air conditioned. I do love your mantle. Red White and blue is a great theme. A baby and a ring are exciting for sure. Every thing new and all is possible.

    1. It is hard but I know that I will adapt. What choice do I really have? It's not the heat as much as it is the humidity is so hard to take. But still I love summer!

  8. Hi Paula - glad you're adapting to being yourself ... though am sure you miss the kids - yet they will always be around. I'm waiting for our weather to turn warm ... but love the photos of your clouds - enjoy the reading ... cheers Hilary

  9. I saw my first blue jay recently … thrilled! Mostly we have cardinals (my favorite) and squirrels, which totally amuse me. What a contrast to Arizona!

Does Darian love being a daddy? His first Father's Day … neat!

  10. Sometimes young marriages work and sometimes not. I wish her the best. That baby is sure a cutie! Ivory is such a pretty name.
We have had horrid humidity...yes AC season has started up here too.
Fruit, salad, something in the crock pot so as to not heat up the house or using the grill is what we have been eating:)
