May Favorites

I love to tell you about my favorites. I hope you like to hear about them. In May, as you know, we hosted a graduation party for Harley. All of our decorations came from the Dollar Tree! So my favorite place to shop in May was the Dollar Tree. They have some pretty quality things. And a great place to shop for parties. We had school pictures framed across the mantle. And I framed some hand prints she made for me when she was in pre-school. We also had napkins, plates, tablecloths, and poppers for her younger guests (which left a mess in the backyard) which they loved!

Harley bought me a candle for Memorial Day. Never have gotten a gift before for this holiday. LOL! I haven't yet burned it. But I can tell you the smell is heavenly. I have some others I would like to finish before I start on this one.

I'm thrilled with the return of the Oriole to my jelly feeders. These birds just make me happy. My brother, Fred, made me a couple of feeders in the years before he died. He called these birds "cookie birds" and he was always happy when it was time for them to return to Kansas.

My favorite wine this month is Pacific Rim's Sweet Riesling. It was a leftover from the grad party. And I have been enjoying it. It is a sweet, smooth wine with pineapple and lemon flavors. It comes from the Washington state area.

I am a big fan of reality TV. I guess it takes me away from my own reality and lets me know there are things worse than what I am living. Ha! Ha! I loved Survivor this past season. I have gotten somewhat bored with past seasons. I felt they did a good job of freshening up the season. Do you watch? My pick to win did not win. But that really isn't unusual. I think Dom played a better game than Wendall. But that is just my opinion. And while speaking about reality TV, did you watch the abbreviated version of Dancing With The Stars?? The chosen winner of this one really blew me away. I think they had picked him before the dancing ever started.

I have a favorite app for my iPhone too. And it has caused me to have a lot of wasted time. Richard and I played a lot of Mexican Train Dominoes in our lifetime. Love this game. It is in the app store as Mexican Train Dominoes Gold. I just play the free version which allows me to play with two people. Who needs something else to waste time with???

And, last, but not least is this weather. Yes, I am a summer lover. I really don't know what happened to spring. We didn't have it this year. We went from Winter to Summer. But, I am not going to complain (yet). I am loving the sunshine and the 90 degree days. What are your favorites this month?

  2. Your mantle looks great! I, too, love Dollar Tree. Wicked, what you'd pay elsewhere for the same (disposable) products. The unexpected Memorial Day gifting is soooo sweet. Sounds like Harley's a grateful girl!

  3. Oh fun! I just had a conversation with a stranger yesterday about Mexican Train Dominoes. What a fun mantle! Lots of happy occasion decorations have been there. Why did Fred call the birds cookie birds? Because of Oreos?

    1. Yes! That is why he called them cookie birds. And we all just went along with it! I miss him!

  5. I used to play Mexican Train with the grands, they loved that game.
All the migratory birds were my favorite this past month, our yard welcomes so many different kinds of birds just passing through...I miss them when they are gone. :)

  6. This month was all about the move. I had a couple of lovely farewell lunches with various friends in Beijing, but my favorite thing was finally announcing our move publicly online! I don't plan to sit on news like this for so long again.

Now that we're in Vietnam, I find new favorites every day. Yesterday my sister told me she wants to come visit in December, so that's something to look forward to. Vietnamese coffee is a delight, and I had papaya for breakfast. Sand in my toes makes me happy, so that's a daily favorite. Lots of blessings right now.

  7. That was a cute idea to have school pictures framed like that as decoration for Harley's graduation! Mantle looks very nice! The Dollar Tree is my favorite dollar store that we have in the area; so many great things to get there and of course I like the price :) The wine sounds yummy, we are dieting, so I've got down my wine drinking a lot, but have this on my list to try later down the road. That was sweet of Harley to get you a present for Memorial Day! I bet that candle does indeed smell good! I got a new phone earlier this month; I'm enjoying putting lots of apps on it and learning how to use it :)

  8. I agree, the Dollar Tree is a good place to shop for parties and much more too. I'm often amazed at what I find there. I agree about summer too, we had a very short, almost non existent Spring and now suddenly summer is here. I got my shorts and tees out and have been wearing them along with my flip-flops . I always enjoy seeing your favorites of each month. You've given me some great ideas of new things to try out.

  9. I'm definitely going to get that Mexican dominos app for my phone. I need a time waster for the bus ride to and from work! I love the way you decorated your fireplace for Harley's grad party. When my kids graduated I made posters with all of their school pictures in a circle and their Senior picture in the middle! Everyone loved looking at them!

  10. I wanted Dom to win Survivor too. I wish we'd have thought about Dollar Tree when we planned my son's 40th birthday party. We paid over $200 for the ones we bought. Next time we're going to DT!
