April Favorites

I can't even believe I just typed that! Is is possible April is already over? Yikes!!!

I wonder if it is crazy that some of my favorites in April are about food! I think I must have been doing a bit of eating in the month of April. I think that is because I am depressed that winter will just NOT end. However, today May 3, we are now seeing spring. It is in the way of thunderstorm warnings and tornado watches. But it IS spring.

Now on to the favorites for April.

I have discovered the best hummus I have ever eaten. Do you like hummus? Hummus is a thick paste (spread) made from ground chickpeas and sesame seeds, olive oil, lemon and garlic. Well that is what 'real' hummus is. And I like it too. But in April I discovered Lantana Black Bean Hummus. And it is to die for!! It is made with black beans. I love, love, love, black beans. This hummus is sweet AND spicy. It has a corn relish topping in the middle. And the best thing is it is ONLY 45 calories per 2 tablespoon serving. Hip, hip, hooray. Lets hear it for black bean hummus.

You might ask what I eat my hummus with? Well, let me tell you what else I have discovered that I am in love with. Wasa Crackers. These are a very thin multi-grain crisp bread. And they are perfect spread with a layer of hummus and topped with sliced cherry tomatoes. My favorite snack of all time for the month of April. I have already gone through 2 tubs of hummus. My favorite flavor of Wasa crackers has been Rosemary and Sea Salt. Try them!!

For my birthday in early April I received a gift box of sangria. It is Lolea Sangria. A Spanish sangria made with fine wine and natural ingredients and is soooooo good. And the bottles are delightful.

I also found a new podcast that has quickly become a favorite. Do you listen to podcasts? This one is my go to podcast when I am having trouble sleeping at night. It is called Sleep With Silk. They have several different ones that you can download in the iTunes store , but my favorite is Nature Sounds. It is awesome. You can listen to water babbling, winds blowing, birds on a beach, a backyard fire-pit....and on and on and on. I am in love. And the best part is it is FREE!

That's it! Just a short list for April. I really didn't do much in April so I didn't try out many new things. I didn't order much on line (I am waiting on a couple of light cardigans for spring) so my list is short. But they are my favorites. Let me know what you found to be a favorite for April.

  2. I've never been much for hummus. But I'm glad you found something you like. Nothing wrong with good food finds.

  3. I will look for that hummus--I LOVE hummus! And thanks for the podcast tip. I have several apps that I like to use for "sleep meditation" and I'm hoping this podcast works for me, as well.

  4. I love black beans too, but not Hummis. Maybe the combination would be good. Did you know Wasa crackers come from Sweden and are named for the king that liberated Sweden from the Danes back in 1523, I believe it was? I love their hard breads (as we call them) but never heard of these crackers. Will look for them, for sure.

    1. No, I did not know that. But thank you for my education today :) I will look for the hard breads. I wonder if it is the texture you don't like!

  6. I will have to try the Wasa Thins; I like the regular ones of them, I guess the multigrain. I haven't tried much hummus, but the stuff I did try I like. I'll have to make note to look for this one. I'm going to look into that podcast; always good to have something to perhaps help to get to sleep on those nights where sleep can be elusive.

  7. I think I ate a lot in April too. There is nothing like comfort food to improve our moods and hopefully now the nicer weather is here that will improve. I need less casseroles and more salads in my diet. I like dips and crackers so I'll have to try out the ones you mentioned. Beans are very good for you too. Here's to the Merry Month of May !

    1. Beans are good for us! I love to eat beans on top of my salad instead of a meat protein.

  8. I love hummus and want to try black bean and those crackers. My son bought me a sound machine a while back and I love it. I always listen to the waves at the beach of course.

  10. Just the other day I ordered a hummus appetizer to be delivered with my supper (it's all delivery all the time, here) and it was gross. Thin and runny like some weird chick-pea soup. I tasted to be sure it was awful, then threw away the whole thing. But typically, I do enjoy hummus.

I didn't do much in April, either. The A to Z challenge, with a week or two of depression in the mix for good measure. I'm ready to take on May!

  12. Wonderful April favourites, Paula! I do like hummus - and black beans! Not sure if they sell that brand in Canada, but I'll look for it. And I'll be in the U.S. later this year, so can maybe try it then!
