December Favorites

I always have a good deal of things I find in the month of December that become a favorite. Probably because I got them as Christmas presents. And my family knows me well. They know what I like.
Papa's shirts

Remember when I told you Paige took all of Richard's shirts home with her to make a quilt? Well I got it for Christmas. It is big enough to cover my lap as I sit in my chair. The wonderful thing is before she wrapped it she sprayed it with his cologne ( After he died, I had given each of the girls a small bottle of it so they could always know what Papa's smell was like)Talk about memories and tears. This definitely brought it on for all of us. I love that she made it herself. She is very talented. The stitching is beautiful. Plus, all of the shirts she selected are the ones we bought for him when we made our trip to Disney World in 2011 (so we all wore matching colors). That gives the quilt some extra meaning. This will be a cherished piece for me. And when I am gone she can have it back!

I also discovered another new wine in the month of December. I think I must like Moscato because these are the ones I am
liking the most. This one is Marco Negri Moscato d'Asti. It is very smooth. And I think I could drink the entire bottle (small, of course) by myself. Have you ever tried this wine?

Next on my list of favorites is my blanket. It is a
Newport Velvet Berber full size blanket. I have lived under this thing since Christmas day. We are having cold, cold, cold temperatures here in Kansas and I don't like to turn my furnace above 68-70 so this is
keeping me toasty warm. It has a red/black Buffalo print on one side and the other side is a white Berber. I could stay under this for the rest of my life. And this little fellow here came for a day of dog-sitting and he liked it too. His name is Coco and he was a Christmas present to one of my 'adopted' granddaughters. Isn't he precious? And what about that glorious blanket??

Now, last month I told you about my favorite stainless steel tumbler. Remember? For
Christmas I got a stainless steel wine glass. This can't be beat for keeping my wine cold. I like to sip my wine. But I don't like warm wine. So this is perfect! Not as pretty as the glass wine glasses I also got for Christmas. But a whole lot more practical for snuggling under my blanket and sipping wine while I read off my new Kindle. My Nook Color, which I got for Christmas years ago, is about to bite the bullet. And Barnes and Nobel no longer supports the model I have. So I got a Kindle Fire with some of my Christmas money. And when you are a Amazon Prime member you can do a lot of reading from their Prime  Reading or from the Kindle Owner's Lending Library. I've also found something about Audible books but I haven't checked into it yet. Maybe they are cheaper too. I am a new Amazon Prime member. If you have any tips or tricks for me I'd love to hear them.

I have discovered a couple of new K-cups for my Keurig to share with you. I am loving Gloria Jean's Butter Toffee coffee and Kahlua light roast coffee. Both of these with French Vanilla cream make for a delightful cup of Joe. Do you have a favorite flavor.

This brings me to the end of my favorites for December. What did you dig on in December?

  2. T-shirt quilts are so cool. And that "glass" is very nice. (If I drank wine, I'm sure I would want one.)

  3. That 'shirt quilt' Paige created is amazing. What a labor of love!
I never heard of a stainless steel wine glass, but you've just given me a great idea for my boss' birthday later this month.

No, I've not tried Moscato wines before; are they bubbly? I'm just a stick-in-the-mud lover of Cabernet, room temp. Coffee? Gotta be dark French Roast. Love Amazon Prime!

    1. I had never heard of one either Myra. But it is nice! No, the Moscato doesn't seem bubbly to me. I like French Roast too!

  4. Hi Paula - that quilt is wonderful ... what a brilliant idea and then to use her spray to 'seal' in Richard's aroma ... love it = and the drink under a blanket ... well sounds like an excellent Christmas - cheers Hilary

  5. Oh Paula. That quilt is so very special. I don't want to be grim, but maybe (if you plan to be buried on death) you could ask for it to cover your lap. I know it is silly, but when my mom died, I wrapped her in a shawl I made for her. It was a beautiful shawl and she loved it. When I visit her grave it give me comfort to know that she is still wrapped in it.

Love the dog picture. A sweetheart.

I love my Kindle Prime - watch a number of movies for free on it. And when my Kindle Paper White goes up - I will get a kindle fire.

Happy New Year, dear friend. Hope this year is kind to you - actually after 2017 ... I hope 2018 is kind to all of us.

    1. I will be cremated Elaine. I would rather she keep the quilt for her memories of her Papa. I'm not much of a movie watcher but I hear they are great on the Kindle. I hope 2018 is kind to all of us too!

  6. How wonderful to have a very special quilt. I have a bear that my sister had made from my mother's fur coat, but my mother and I had a terrible relationship so it just sits here in my office. I love the free shows on Prime and Charlie gets to watch lots of the children's ones. I bought Starbucks salted caramel hot chocolate for Christmas. The only thing is you have to run clean water through the Keurig after you make it or it gums up the works.

    1. That's too bad about your mother and your relationship. That's how I felt about my grandmother. Maybe someone else in your family would enjoy it more. Yum the salted caramel hot chocolate sounds good. Thanks for reminding me to run hot water through my Keurig.

  10. I love your quilt and your blanket too. What wonderful ways to keep warm. It seems my furnace has continually run here just to keep up. I hate to see the bill when it comes. I was gifted some Christmas coffees, one from Aldi and the other from Trader Joes and both are wonderful. Nice to have something warm these cold days for sure.

  11. As you know I don't drink any alcohol now, but did and do enjoy the Cranberry/Pomegranate drinks now. Gave up all Coke and soft drinks for ice tea and this. Nice work there Miss Paige as Papa's clock chimes in the background with approval.
Text with my nephew the other morning and congrats to him on his new position with the department.
Text with baby ranger a little, try to keep his spirits up.
The kids showed on my birthday and we had a little cake. Was a fun time.

    1. We don't drink much soda or tea anymore. Mostly water here. Justin told me you had texted with him. The ceremony was nice. I hope baby ranger still gets to go to ranger school. Time will tell. Glad you had company for your birthday.

  16. The quilt is a beauty and the memories...I got a new lap robe made by a friend and I am so enjoying it. I've been taking my coffee with a splash of half and half and a little sugar free toffee syrup. I got a coffee subscription from Zingermans as a gift and I love it. Worth grinding my own beans for the aroma. Happy new year and take good care!

  17. That's a great list!
I guess my best parts of December include talking to family, and finally getting a pen-pall situation going for 3 of my English tutor-ees. The month was extremely high stress as we tackled bureaucratic B.S.

I tell you, they call it "red" tape because communists excel at it.
(and by "excel" I mean "make it take longer and more steps than it should.")
