The Week of Christmas Life List

LOOKING OUT MY WINDOW....

The world is white outside my window. Like in snow-white. We got about 2 inches of snow on Saturday night. And it was very, very cold. We had an actual temperature of -9 with a wind chill of -22 degrees. I mean to tell you we don't get this kind of cold, cold temps very often and I don't know how you guys that live in places that do take it!!

AS I PONDER....

I am pondering Christmas! The things I yet need to do. I have groceries to order. A few $10 gifts for a couple of gift exchanges we have coming up! A trip to the bank for some crisp bills to give as gifts. And I am still working on some house cleaning!! Probably all the same things that you guys are doing! Right?

WHAT I'M READING....

I am reading Year of Yes, by Shonda Rimes and I am listening to Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult. I finished Anne of Green Gables and will review it later.

WHAT I'M WATCHING...

It was a sad week as I watched the final episode of Rectify. I really, really liked this show and I didn't want it to end. But all good things will come to an end! The story line came full circle. Daniel Holden was wrongly accused of a rape and murder and spent 19 years on death row, at which time he was released because DNA test results have shown that he was not the person who raped her. While the county is deciding to re-prosecute him, Daniel admits guilt so that neither his family or the family of his young girlfriend will have to go through that again. As part of the plea deal he is banished from his home state of Georgia. Now Daniel needs to learn how to live his life, away from his family, and deal with all the years of prison. A powerful show!! If you haven't seen it, I encourage you to watch it!! Fantastic acting!

WHAT I'M HEARING...

In the background I am hearing Married by Mom and Dad!

A QUOTE I WANT TO SHARE...

A peek into my week...

Darian has a new job. He starts tomorrow at GNC! 8:30 a.m. This will be very different from what he has been doing at Braum's. And I will be the taxi driver. We only own one car and he is NOT driving it! Period. He needs to work on getting his own car if he is not leaving soon for the military. (for those wondering, he is still in the enlistment process. I don't know why it seems to be taking so much longer. They want him to be sure THIS TIME, I guess). And I haven't decided if he is sure yet or not. Harley will only go to school for 2 1/2 days then she is on winter break until January 5. I cannot believe the first semester of her junior year is over!

A final thought...

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas!!

  2. How neat with the job for Darian!! Hopefully it will be for more hours than his other job (if I remember correctly, he wasn't working a lot of hours before?) Brrr that is cold weather! I hear various parts of the country are getting hit with those frigid temperatures!! I have Wednesday off from work so I'm going to be doing all my end of Christmas things that need to be tied up (like wrap presents, all are bought). Its hard to believe Christmas is so close to being here! Merry Christmas!

    1. Yes, I am thrilled. He is guaranteed 15 hours a week with this job. Will probably get more. At Braums he sometimes had 3 hours in one week. Very poorly managed! I'll be finishing up here on Friday. As soon as I figure out what we are all doing!! Merry Christmas Betty!

  3. YAY on the new job, Darian!
Ya, I'd wondered when 'Marine Babies' fell off your/his weekly calendar. That sort of commitment is serious, indeed; and ours, a scary world.

I'm going to relay your temps to Tom and tell him to quit bellyaching about it being in the 30's.

    Merry, merry Christmas!

    1. Thank you Myra. He has changed his mind about the Marines. He had to discharge. Now he wants the Army!

  4. Today is -5 degrees without a wind chill. I don't know how we do it, either. It's crazy cold.

  6. Is he on a delayed enlistement? My son, enlisted in his senior year and it was 10 months later, he went in. He even went to one semester of college and played football.

Boy those are some cold temps. The coldest I have even experienced was Lake tahoe at about 18 degrees. When my husband was in the Coast Guard, he was in both poles. He was on a ice cutter with scientists. So he wins the bets, for whose been in the coldest, by far.

    1. Hi Debby! He was in a delayed enlistment but then he changed his mind and decided he didn't want the Marine Corps because he couldn't be guaranteed the job he wanted. So he discharged and is now planning to enlist in the Army! Yes, it is cold!!

  7. Cold down here also, had 32* for 3 hours last night. Got up and turned the water on to keep it from freezing at 4 when the girl went out.
Wondered why Darian was still home, they can get that idea that he isn't serious when he can't make up his mind on which service he wants. We had one who's mamma decided he didn't want to be in the full Navy and want to attend weekend meetings instead. They said fine, as soon as you finish boot camp.
We are ready for Christmas here, 10AM Sunday for presents, Chinese buffet at noon. Then maybe football with SNL. They are going to movies that night.

    1. Cold is -22* Nothing froze here!! It's 38 here today so I imagine the snow will melt. Whatever decision he makes with the military is okay with me. With Trump in office I might not care whether he goes or not!! Just my opinion! He needs to BE SURE before he makes a decision this big. But, in the end, it is still his decision. No one had any problem with him changing his mind (except for those whose business it wasn't anyway). Discharging from the Corp was a piece of cake. Sounds like you have a good plan for Christmas!!

  8. Merry Christmas! We warmed up so you will too! 23 above zero today, felt like summer! It might be 30 tomorrow.
Good to hear Darian has a job and hopefully he will go into the service, the wheels move slowly sometimes.
Have a good week, your menus sound good:)

  10. Merry Christmas to you and your family, Paula. Glad your grandson is taking his time on the enlistment process. This is a big decision and he is still very young. Getting the right MOS is important to satisfaction for his years in the military. My son stuck with his enlistment in the Marines but never got what he wanted as an MOS - so he left after 4 years. Of course he wanted a dangerous assignment so I was glad they picked something else for him. Hahaha. He was so young then. Could be the military is used to managing these young males and their 'expectations' and want to be sure they don't change their minds once in - makes their job easier if the young man knows what he wants and is committed.

    1. I'm glad he is taking his time too. I think he rushed into the decision to join the Marines and then they kept making promises that they didn't plan to keep. He needs to get it all in writing this time around. I think he is maturing with the process too! Yes, I am sure the military has dealt with more than one young man that changed their mind! It's all good with me!! Merry Christmas Elaine!

  13. Okay, so we are not the only ones still at school this week. Although, we're in until Thursday and out until January 9th. And I was wondering about Darian. Did he decide not to join and then change his mind? That is something you kind of want to be sure of. Have a great holiday.

    1. Yes, Liz! He decided not to join the Marines when he couldn't get the MOS he wanted. So he discharged. He is thinking about enlisting in the Army now! Time will tell!

  15. YAYAY I finally made it! My post is here, Paula: Currently...A Life List.

We've had some cold weather here this week, too, though nowhere nearly as cold as yours! It got into the low 30s at some points, but mostly low 40s. I wish we could get snow. Lucky you!

Your tree is beautiful. Ours is coming along, finally. It is just a small table topper size tree, but that is all that we really need at this point. We don't have any little ones around to load up with presents and we're a long way away from grand-babies.

    I like your quote. :)

Congratulations and best wishes to Darian with his new job and to you as you are chauffeuring. :) I'm one, too.

I hope that you have a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

    1. At my house, getting snow is not considered lucky!! LOL! I don't like anything about winter. I just wish it would be over. Thank you for the comments on our tree. I had help with decorating it! We don't load it up with presents. Just a few envelopes stuffed with 'as much money as I can afford'. That is what they like best.
      Merry Christmas to you Susanne!!

    2. I love winter. It is the summer that I find horrible. It is just way too hot here in the summertime. I'll never forget the day my Zoomie registered 118 degrees and we were under a canopy of trees in the shade. OY! Winter is a great reprieve from that!
      Money works. :)
Thank you, Paula, and a very Merry Christmas to you, too. :)
