Happy National Book Lovers Day

August 9th is National Book Lovers Day! I love books, don't you? I can't even imagine what my life would have been like, or would be like, if I didn't like to read.

I believe reading does force us to be quiet. It is hard to find that kind of quiet anymore.
Don't you find many magical things and places when you are reading? I know I can be transported to those places when I lose myself in a good book. I feel like I am getting a peak into other places, other lives, things I wouldn't otherwise get to experience.

And thank goodness my reading takes me to places I otherwise wouldn't get to go. I don't have to pack. I don't have to fly. I don't have to drive. I just sit down in my recliner, or lie in my bed, and visit places all over the world.

I almost exclusively read on my Nook now. But I still love the smell of books. I still love to pick up a heavy book and contemplate reading it. I like to flip through the pages. I'll keep feeding my addiction. What about you? How do you feel about reading?? Have a Happy National Book Lover's Day!!

I colored this for my planner!
My "Books I want to Read" List

  1. Love books and reading! I too have been reading a lot of books on my tablet, mainly because it is so convenient, but there is something about holding a book and flipping the pages the old fashion way. Been reading a lot this summer too; so many good books out there!

  2. Hi Paula .. that's great you're an avid reader ... I've lots of books to get stuck into - so must start reading - but I enjoy reference books so much ...

World Book Day ... I picked up Lady Susan at the library - it's Jane Austen's first published work ... I think - long after she died ... but it's an epistolary ... so I'm looking forward to reading that ... short and sweet ...

Your coloured planner looks amazing - well done .. cheers Hilary

  3. Well, you know how much I like to read. I am armed to the teeth with books for our road trip and right now I am reading The Secret Book of Frida Khalo and listening to The One in a Million Boy recommended by you.

  4. I agree books and reading transport me to places I cannot visit! A world without reading and books would be a dismal place:)

  5. Great post! I'm with you on traveling via books. Dang! I tried to enlarge your coloring page so I could snoop at the titles you want to read, but I could only make out a few. The rest were blurred upon enlarging. They must be mysteries!! I went to a new (to me) bookstore this morning. I just wanted to be a tourist in my own city for a short time. It was a fun outing! Happy reading!

    1. Dang, sorry you couldn't read the book titles. I love book stores. I could spend forever in them just searching out good books!! But they cost so much!! I will stick with my ebooks and the library!

  7. Oh, so that's why Instagram is filled with pics of people's favorite books! I wondered.

I do love to read. Stories are my life.

  8. Although I'm reading a book on my Kindle at the present time I still prefer to pick up books at the library as I did tonight . I still buy books that I want to keep for a long period of time though I have no idea what my children would do with them after I'm gone. I had dinner with the local library director tonight and I'm not sure that even she knew that it was national booklovers day.

    1. I have found that I prefer the Nook. Sometimes I will have the book and I will still go buy it on my Nook! Just easier to read on the Nook. Yep, National Book Lovers Day!!

  9. It's not quite time for me, I read on my breaks at work and in order to block out all the loud idiots in the break room, I wear headphones with music playing.

I buy books faster than I can read them. I think I have around 60 titles on my Kindle and it seems to grow before I can finish one.

    1. I often have the TV on as background noise when I am reading. Good to see you Jeff!!

  10. ... still recovering, regaining my toe-hold! Looking back, it's truly a mystery how a 'bookworm' like me could have fallen so far from the wagon, so suddenly. When Caraleigh died then we received Tom's awful diagnosis a few weeks later, I found myself unable to focus on little else.

So thankful to be finding my way back ... with lots of help from my friends! :) I adore my Kindle Fire, but I agree, there's nothing like the aroma of a big old book!

PS - Love your attention to detail on those planner pages!

    1. I have gone through long periods of time where I haven't read. But I always find my way back. I think I read so much now because I've gotten lazier in my old age.

  11. I can't remember when I read a book last. I used to read a lot. That is until I discovered audible.com. Now I listen to books. Which has its pros and cons. I miss seeing the words and being able to go back to a phrase or paragraph that I loved. But, I also love being read to and being able to knit while I listen. And when you are listening to a book, you hear every word. I can't skim like I might be prone to do when reading.
    Love the planner!

    1. I have only recently started listening to books. I do both now! I do, however, prefer reading over listening!

  12. I didn't know about this day either. When I worked in the school I was always of aware of World Book Day in March as the pupils all got a £1 voucher to put towards a book - this usually co-incided with having a book fair at school where some books were priced at £1. I love reading and have a huge TBR pile and list! I'm very glad I have a library within walking distance too.
