A Decorating Question

I love to know what's on your mind.
How else can I find out things
if I don't ask you?
Right?

So, today, what I am wondering is:

If you could do one thing to change your home what would you do??

Paint?
Build something?
New carpet?
Furniture?

Share what you would do if you could.
And, of course, for this question, funds are unlimited!!

  1. Decoration?? Decorate less. Less wall items, less counter and table decos ... less. I used to decorate like my mother-in-law. Stuff on every flat surface, and lots of stuff on the walls. But I have gotten away from that and it is freeing.

In the new condo, that will be my goal as well. What I really would love for the new condo is hard wood floors. But because it is a condo and sound minimization is a goal there, I will always be stuck with wall-to-wall carpeting.

    1. I agree that "less is more". But for right now I still like to be surrounded by my stuff! I want hardwood floors throughout my house too. That would be how I would have answered this question. And an outdoor water faucet!!

  2. Everything here is old and that includes the house itself. Lots needs done. I'd say all the above plus some ! Unlimited funds would be nice. Meanwhile I'm comfy and cozy and really cannot complain.

    1. Unfortunately my house needs a lot done to it to. Without that constant upkeep it can happen! I shouldn't really complain either!

  3. I would add a small, four-season widow's walk for rooftop knitting, reading and an unimpeded view of the sunrise and sunset.

  4. I would say painting, new flooring, new furniture. Those are things we want to do down the road. Putting in new windows too with new screens. I like the thought of unlimited funds.

    1. New flooring would make me the happiest. But I wouldn't turn down new living room furniture!

  5. Oh, I would just start over. Basically, I guess I am on the same wave length as retired knitter. I'd love to downsize the stuff and go stark. In a couple of weeks we are having the interior of the whole house painted. Lots of dust collectors hanging around. So it's a good time to decide what to keep and what to donate.

    1. I would like to have someone paint the entire inside of my house. I hate painting!!

  6. Although I am no in a flood zone i would still love to raise this place on stilts another 4 foot. But in reality I'd settle for a carport, so a parking pad must be extended and driveway widened first.

    1. A carport would be a good thing for you. Along with that parking pad!! And a dry front yard!

  7. I would take the upper floor with three bedrooms and a bath and move it to ground level. Then I would add a mud room/utility room. Love my house but tired of all the stairs!

    1. I can fully understand that. We are all on one floor but we do have a step-down living area.

  8. well, every single thing in my house needs serious help! I mean everything!
I would redo my family room over totally - paint, furniture, carpet. I sit in there so much - that just having that one room done would make me feel much better!

  9. Where, or where to begin?
Our carpet is pretty disgusting, so I'd love hardwood throughout. That's the practical side of me.
On the other hand ... I'd love to drain the pool, chip out the plaster and order a big dump-truck load of fill.

    1. Richard owned a house once that had a pool in the back. It was NOT a selling feature, as we thought it would be. The people who bought the house filled in the pool! I was appalled. LOL! I want all hardwood floors too. Myra!

  10. Starting with a major organizational overhaul (decluttering and reorganizing everything) I would move on to paint and furniture.

    1. I would need to start right there with you Kwiz! De-clutter and organize first!

  11. Move. Well, first I think I need to downsize. Declutter. Then move.

    1. Definitely downsize and declutter first

  12. I would build it all over again and do things differently. A larger laundry area and a covered front porch on one side and a screened in four season porch on the other. Everything else is just perfect...oh I could have used a closet near the front door too but coat hooks work. We built this house so fast it was like a whirl wind, we built it ourselves so we only have ourselves to blame. :)

    1. I like the way my house is arranged. But I would love to have a pantry and hardwood floors.

  13. Rip up carpet in bedrooms and add hardwoods. Floor more attic space for storage. Paint the walls brighter colors.

  14. Decorating and new carpets would be on my list. Lots of it. Plus hubby would probably choose a new mattress for our bed.

    1. New carpets in my bedrooms too. And yes, a new mattress. They are so darn expensive!

  15. Well in my new home....if we ever get there....I am removing a doorwall and window that leads into the sunroom that was an addition to the house. I can't wait to get in there and make it my own.
