My Simple Woman's Daybook-January 4th Edition

For Today...

Today is Monday, January 4, 2016! Have you written the new year yet? I am always in awe when I write the year for the first time in the new year! When I was a small child in the 1950's I never could have visualized that I would still be around when the year was 2016! It just didn't seem possible that we would ever see that decade. But here I am! This is going to be a momentous year. I am moving Forward! I have lots of plans. And I will turn 65 this year! Now, that is hard to believe.

Outside my window...

It is another bright, sun-shiny, day here in Kansas. Cold outside though. It is currently only 22 degrees. There isn't any wind so it shouldn't be colder than that. We are looking for a high of 39 degrees today. And up in the 40's the remainder of the week.

I am hearing...

I am hearing the news on TV. Lots of talk about New Year's resolutions that have already gotten off track. Heck, it is only January 4. How can you give up so soon? I have hardly finished writing mine. So I am moving Forward !

On my camera...

I am wishing...

Wishing is something I don't really do very often. Richard was a dreamer and a wisher. Me, not so much. I am wishing for this to be a great year. And I am planning on how to make that wish come true.

I am creating...

Besides this daybook entry, my weekly menu, and my 2016 goals, I am still coloring and enjoying it so much. Such a wonderful way to relax and unwind.

Not my pencils but I like the picture

My coloring on New Year's Day!

What I learned on Facebook...

From the Southern Princess:

"Your mission for today is to scrub down your counter tops, hot soapy water and you wipe down the counters from front to back and side to side. Yes, you have to move the stuff on the counters to do this, but move the stuff over clean that area then move the stuff back where it was. Dont become obsessed over this spend 15 minutes doing this and then be done. If your just starting you Babysteps do it and get it out of the way. The small 15 mins will show more than you think. "

For those of you who might ask, no I haven't done this. But it might be all I get done today!! She follows the FlyLady! I've been reading there. I think it could be possible that I "over-think" everything in my life!!

I am pondering...

Pondering!! I like that word. I am pondering when I will start to take down and put away the Christmas decorations.

Beauty!

I am reading...

I am reading The Good Girl, by Mary Kubica, skimming through The Whole 30 by Dallas and Melissa Hartwig, and reviewing The Life Changing Magic of Tyding by Marie Kindo. I have joined a Book Club at Paper & Glam blog; as well as Modern Mrs. Darcy's 2016 book challenge. I haven't bitten off more than I can chew (gulp). I'm moving Forward!

I am moving forward with...

That is what we call a segue, don't you think. My goals for 2016 are going to focus on these areas:

1)Mental/Emotional
2)Physical
3)Spiritual
4)Home & Family
5)Financial

I am learning...

I haven't yet started memorizing anything. I belong to the group Do Not Depart and we will begin with Matthew 6:1-34 on January 18 and go until May 23. I use Scripture Typer to memorize. I enjoy it. And I truly believe the act of memorizing keeps your mind sharper. So there you go. Two birds with one stone.

In my backyard...

Today, in my backyard, are a group of squirrels that are fighting to get the most bread pieces that I have thrown out. They are ignoring the oranges so far. Leaving them for Polly, the opossum!

In my kitchen...

Monday...Leftovers

Tuesday...Hamburger gravy on Biscuits

Wednesday...Kids to church

Thursday...Grilled cheese & tomato soup

Friday...Omelets with home fries

Saturday...Shepherd's Pie

Sunday...Roast with potatoes and carrots
(this keeps reappearing because I haven't gotten it cooked yet) Waiting for you, Paige*

I am remembering...

I have been thinking of Christmas's past. Here is a picture of Paige when she was 3 or 4 sitting in front of our Christmas tree. She was so 'stinkin' cute back then. Not, that she isn't still. But now she is almost 16!

A favorite quote for today...

A peek into my week...

Monday...the kids went back to school today!!! It is possible I am a bit happy about that!!!!!!

Tuesday...Harley has an away basketball game

Wednesday...kids will have youth group

Thursday...Darian will be getting back into the Marine Babies. They have had a holiday!

Friday...Darian is going to try for his driver's license. Harley has a basketball game at home.

No plans yet for the weekend!

One of my favorite things...

One of my favorite things is how big the house seems once all the Christmas things are put away!!

Now I am going to link up with The Simple Woman's Blog and go visit a few friends. Anything to put off doing anything too strenuous today. Going to sit and read a spell before I start anything else!! Care to join me??

  1. Okay, the turtle is just perfect for the quote you chose for today! Made me smile. I am standing in your corner just to cheer you moving forward, but, I am not going to be the one to tell you which way is forward. :-) That little Santa from the childhood of your beloved Richard is so sweet. You are finding many ways to keep him close. That photo of Paige in front of the tree is classic! Mine never looked that cute, but largely has to do with the fact that i was not that cute! Honestly, one of these days, I'm gonna wait with my daybook til you post your menu and then just copy and paste yours!! Enjoy your quiet now that achool is back in session.

    1. Hopefully, I will figure out forward as I go along. Thank you for cheering me on! We do have many, many ways of keeping him close. We made many memories together. Of which I am so thankful! Paige has always been very photogenic! LOL! My menu this week is so simple. Not wanting to go to the grocery store, so I have to use what I have!!

  2. Yes, forward is forward! True words, and inspiring!

I love the shading you're doing in your coloring, and the hues you chose.

When I see your dinner menus for the week, I think "She picked perfectly." They always seem so tasty and simple.

  4. Definitely! I once told a friend "keep moving forward to the better". He keeps my written encouragement with him as he battled cancer AND divorce (after 25 years of marriage) at the same time. I'm so surprised adult coloring as taken off like it has! My 13 year old daughter LOVES it. I started art journaling (like coloring at times) in my bible to help learn and personalize scripture. Fun times!

    1. That is a great testament to how good of a friend you were that he keeps your note with him. I have friends who art journal in their Bibles. I need a pattern yet!

  6. Oh my gosh, that is a long passage to memorize, but a great one! Good that there is a few months to work on it. I'm so excited about reading how you will be moving forward in 2016! Seems like you are super motivated to be doing so too :)

The books sound interesting; I have resolved not to think of getting any more books for my tablet until I read a lot on them; I have accumulated quite a stack there to be read :)

  8. I know so many adults who find coloring to be helpful and relaxing. It's why I crochet (or would be if Herrschners would send me my yarn for my temperature blanket).

I'm Episcopalian so Christmas is a 12-day feast for us and goes from December 25th to January 5th! (This is the origin of "12th night".) So feel free to keep those ornaments up for a few more days. ;)

  10. Harley's poses always make me snicker! :)
Funny what you said about Wishing: Wishing/day-dreaming has always been my Achilles heel; in fact, I used to get in trouble at school for doing that. 'Beats reality, sometimes!

PS - Your tree looks beautiful! Our pales in comparison, but up it stays each year until Epiphany.

    1. It is always fun to find her pictures on my phone. She is so darn funny. (Most of the time) Yes, wishing does beat reality, that's for sure. I just was never much of a dreamer. I am leaving mine up for Epiphany too. I even turned the lights on tonight.

  11. Sounds like a good week. It's good to get back into the swing of things. I think that's what I like the best about the beginning of January, the clearing out of the decorations that seemed to clutter up everything.
