The Ramblings of a Former Caregiver
The words are interchangeable here, generally followed by a listing of what the host has on hand. My sister brings her own RC; it's ot so popular here.
RC isn't that popular here either!
Pop, for sure! But I'm MN and that's Midwest like KS. I hear "soda" when I'm at work because we have many faculty and students who migrated to the MN from outside the Midwest.
I hear it both ways too!
In the great state of Texas all sodas are called Cokes. We will say do you want a coke? what kind- dr pepper, coke, pepsi? Its kind of funny.
That is funny Holli!!
It's pop here in Michigan too
Here in Canada it's always pop - soda means club soda!
Soda to me always means baking soda! Ha!
Soda here, but we've been soda free for close to 5 years (and loving it :)betty
Wow! Soda free! Now, that is something!!
Soda here in Northern Maine. Then we list what types of soda.
Just like the folks in Texas, here in Georgia, we refer to all sodas as "Coke". Ha!
I love it!
Come to think of it, we call everything 'Coke' as well!
I am in the UK - and I'd call it "fizzy". (Just to throw a spanner into the works!) Some people might say "pop" depending on what area they live in the UK. Almost no one would call it "soda" here as that's a particular type of mixer we use here that usually goes with spirits.I love your term "popsicle" - so cute! We call that a lolly.Lolly can also mean cash/money here....It's such a complicated language!
Thanks, Jane, for sharing. It is interesting the way we use different words depending on where you are from!!
I grew up in a small town (Milford, Ohio) - and it was always "pop" - and still is back there. In fact, when we were younger, we always got "pop" night on Friday nights. We got one small coke and a small bag of chips or fritos. Now that I'm in Virginia, I've learned to call it soda - but it still seems strange!Linda in VA
Thanks for sharing Linda. I remember living in Newport News, Va. and I never knew what they were talking about when they asked if I wanted a soda. I usually asked for a Pepsi! LOL
We always call it pop here. When people say soda it makes me think of two things...baking soda or tonic water!!
I agree my friend!
Generally soda. But Coke pops up now and again.
Seems to me the country is split into threes. We in the Midwest are the pop people!
I love to hear what you might think. Leave me a comment. I guarantee though that I will delete your comment if you are just here to cause trouble. So tread lightly!
