My Simple Woman's Daybook-July 27th Edition

For Today...

Today is Monday, July 27, 2015. So this is 'good-bye week'. Time to say good-bye to another July. Up into the history books you go! There were good things and bad things happening all over the world in July. Let's focus on the good things. July was a month I had been dreading. As you know it was the month of my "Horrible Anniversary". I have to say that I felt so much apprehension leading up to it. So much sorrow. So much sadness. And now it is behind me. I survived a whole year of "firsts" without the love of my life. And now I am marching forward!!!!

Outside my window...

It's going to be another hot day in Kansas. 95* now at 2 p.m. The sky is blue and the sun is beating down. Very little breeze to be found anywhere. A good day to just stay in the house and type. Or do laundry!

I am thinking...

I am thinking of all the things I want to accomplish before cold weather comes. Yes, I know it is still July. But, for all of us who know how fast this summer has gone, we know  winter will be here in the flash of an eye. I want to touch up paint outdoors, paint my backdoor, clean out the garage (I mean like REALLY clean out the garage). Many of the kinds of things that you can't do when it is freezing outside!

I am thankful...

I am thankful that I live in a state that has a full four seasons. We really do get a taste of everything here in Kansas. The winters are sometimes just too long. And the summers are sometimes just too short. But I am thankful I get to have all four seasons!!

I am feeling...

I am feeling hopeful!

I am currently watching...

I have been watching the new season of Rectify. Are there any fellow watchers out there? This is season 3 (very short seasons too as there are only 6 episodes). The show is on Sundance TV and it is the story of Daniel Holden who was convicted as a teenager of the rape and murder of his teenage girlfriend. He spent 19 years on death row before being exonerated by new DNA evidence. A very good show. The acting is marvelous. This show has received many awards and critical acclaims. I just love it! I just wish the season was longer.

I am going...

Today I am going to catch up with the laundry. Harley brought two suitcases of dirty clothes home from camp. For all those who are interested she loved camp. She suffered through a bit of cell phone drama, some adult workers drama, and some 'coming home' drama. But her youth pastor had nothing but praise for her. He wants her to come back every year and be a camp helper. She was a "hydration specialist" this time. It was her job to make sure all the big orange/blue water coolers stayed full so all the campers would always have fresh water. She also played Monkey ball with all the teens. She is the one on the left in the pink shirt. And the one of her sleeping is on the trip home!

I am wondering...

I am wondering if I will really go to the grocery store today! sometimes I am a master as getting out of things I really need to do. Do you do that as well?

I am reading...

I am reading The Girls From Ames: A Story of Women and A Forty Year Friendship. This book came with high recommendations. So far, I am enjoying it. It is a true story. About women and their friendships. I feel some introspective blog posts coming from this book. Thank you Myra for telling me about it!

I am learning...

I am currently learning about organization through planning. It is good to have a well organized calendar to keep all of these teen activities straight. And I am having fun doing it in my Happy Planner. I'm also syncing with the wall calendar (so everyone can look) and my Cozi Calendar on my phone. The best phone calendar out there; in my opinion.

I am improving...

I am improving my mind!! Really, I am. By memorizing Bible verses it will help improve brain function. Memorizing is proven to help! I also have an app on my phone called Lumosity which aids in brain training through exercises and games. Try it! Some on pretty fun! Some are down-right hard!!

In my kitchen...

Monday...Chili dogs, French fries

Tuesday...Breakfast for dinner

Wednesday...Chicken Fried Rice ( I am determined to get this dish made this week)

Thursday...Mac & Cheese & Chicken *Harley

Friday...Baked Tacos

Saturday...Chicken Broccoli Supreme

Sunday...Salisbury Steaks, Mashed taters, Corn Fritters

A favorite quote for today...

How profound! We all need to chew on this for a bit!

A peek into what we are drinking...

Working my way through my second cup of French vanilla laced coffee! Then I plan to switch to ice cold water.

One of my favorite things...

This little girl spent the weekend with us! She is Paige's mom's little doggie. Meet Massey!

I am memorizing...

James 1: 26-27 This is the last of our verse.

If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world
n is worthless. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

  1. Hi there :) That is one of my favorite reasons for living in Kansas, too! I also tell people God made parts of it so flat just so we'd have a better view of his amazing skies, lol. (Did you know there are technically 6 states topographically flatter than Kansas?)
    Massey is adorable!
    Have a wonderful week!

    1. No I didn't know that. But I have traveled through the Flint Hills enough to not believe that Kansas is all that flat. So happy to have you stop by for a visit today. Where are Kansas do you live Anita. Or have I asked you before?

  2. I am in denial that the school year is coming soon (your calendars are reminding me). Masey is really sweet. And after my weekend with school friends, I'm interested in what you'll post in reaction to the Girls from Ames.

  3. That is hot weather for sure, Paula! Definitely good to stay inside :) Laundry always has a way of needing to be done, doesn't it? Glad to hear Harley enjoyed her time at camp and was a great helper! I have not heard of that TV series, but it does sound interesting; same with the book!

    1. Except for taking Darian to work this morning, I have stayed in all day! You must look into the TV series. The first year it was on I caught the final episode so I 'binge' watched on On Demand and I have been a faithful follower ever since. Their seasons are so short. I think all together there has only been 26 episodes.

    1. I could do without such a long winter. But I would need it to snow at least once. Maybe not 2 feet of snow but some big snowflakes on Christmas would be nice!

  5. Hi! Oh what a cute visitor you had over the weekend!! I bet that was fun! Your quote is so true, I need to write that in my journal! It looks like Harley had a great time, that is awesome! What is she doing the rest of the summer? I am also glad to have 4 seasons.....even winter....did I just WRITE that??? Everyone around here is getting their wood ready for their woodstoves, I see wood deliveries everyday now! And I always feel like we are gearing up for winter, sheesh!! Maybe if we made winter last for no more than 2 months....that would be a good idea I think! I hope you have a terrific week!! Sending you lots of love!

    1. She is a cute little doggie for sure! We only have about 3 1/2 more weeks until school starts. I know she is hoping for some more swimming days! And then probably just get things ready for school. I like a 'bit' of winter too!! Sending lots of love your way too!

  6. Massey looks exactly like my Grace-Evelyn! Tom calls her the 'snuggler' on account that's all she seems to want to do!

I suppose it's been since h.s. that I experienced 4 seasons. Wow. If our (so-called) winters were to last longer than 3 weeks, that would be an improvement, huh? I tell ya, we need to organize a foreign-exchange blogger program where those of us dying of heat could travel to snow country in the Winter; and vice-versa. Ya think?

Girls from Ames? Actually, Carol at Buttercup Counts her Blessings first recommended it to me!

    1. Massey is a snuggler too! She is Brooke's dog and while she was here she stayed pretty close to Paige. Paige said she has nothing to do with her at home. Do you miss winter, Myra? I think that I would. The Girls from Ames is interesting.

  8. Oh gosh, where to begin? I like the photo collage. Great way to collect and display some of the camp photos. The quote you chose is indee something to chew on. Good reminder to all us humans, right? Thanks for mentioning the book title from Myra. I enjoy non-fiction and I will have to look into this one, I want to wish you the best as you move forward now that you got that first awful year behind you. It's not magic or easy, but there is a tomorrow and I hope it smiles on you.

  12. Love reading your daybook entries! Girl, I wish we had four seasons here in Texas. It's sooooo outrageously hot. And guess what I'm doing: cleaning out my garage! Which is a huge chore. Years of STUFF. I am throwing out tons of stuff that I haven't used or even seen in years. My ex is coming on Saturday with an empty truck and we're going to load it up and take everything to the dump. I'm so sick of having one little walkway through the garage. Forget about getting my vehicle in there! It would be really nice if I could finally get my truck in the garage. That will be a true miracle. The hard thing about doing it now though is that I go through a box and then have to come inside to cool off in the air conditioning. Do a box, come in and cool off, go out and do another box, come in and cool off. It's taking me forever to get this accomplished. But come Saturday with Brian here I think we're just going to start tossing stuff in the back of his truck! I have 44 items up for sale on a local resale Facebook group. So far I've only made a whopping $25. The rest is going to Goodwill. I'm hating every second doing this but it will be such a joy when it's all done. Good luck on yours! Oh, and I went to the grocery store this morning too...but forgot that I had a trunk full of stuff going to Goodwill so I had to rearrange all the boxes so I could fit the groceries in. That was a dumb move... Well, back out to the garage. Talk soon!
