A New Baby at our House

Darian is taking a parenting class in school. This weekend he got to bring home his new baby girl. We are now a biracial family. She is so sweet....until she cries. And then he has to figure out if she is hungry, needs burped, is cold, or her diaper needs changed. The neck is made in such a way that it records if he is not supporting it correctly. The bracelet that he wears on his wrist records how he is caring for her. He got pretty frustrated around 4:00 p.m. when she wouldn't stop crying. I wonder how it will be at 4 a.m.??? I think this class should be mandatory for every high school student. There are only 2 boys taking it this year. It will be invaluable experience for him. I think Harley has the class next semester. Wish us luck for the weekend!

  1. Love this practice. I remember when a couple of the teen girls in my Sunday School class had that class and they had to bring the baby to church with them. Fun times! Good luck to Darian!

    1. Darian is already saying that there is no way he is going to church on Sunday and take his baby with him. We'll see!

  2. When Ting was in high school, they had to get married, figure out a budget, pay bills, cook food and take care of a baby. It was a great class.

    1. I think it is very 'real' for them. All kids should have to do it. Too bad this class is an elective

  3. I totally agree with you--this should be MANDATORY for everyone in high school. Yay! for Darian that he chose to take it. I'll bet you and Richard's influence had something to do with that.....

    1. He took the class because he really likes kids. He did not expect this to happen. It has been funny so far to see how serious he is about getting the baby to be quiet once it starts crying.

  6. A few years ago we were in a theater watching a movie and suddenly we heard this weird sound, like cross between a crying cat and a crying baby. After a few seconds this young teenage girl went running out with this crying baby doll in her arms! We were all kind of laughing! Hope it was a good lesson for her! It will be a great learning tool for Darian!

  7. I remember seeing a few girls walking around with dolls like this in high school. I never took the class though. I'm not sure my parents would have even allowed it. lol They are weird.

    1. I am happy that he took the class. Harley is taking it as well. Good experience for teens to get a slight glimpse into what having a baby is like

  8. I think its a wonderful experience! I wish they would schedule having the "babies" when a kid is sick, because you know how you need to take care of wee ones when you are feeling under the weather; that would be a good experience for them too! I hope the baby decides it likes sleeping through the night :)

My niece had one years ago when she was in high school. Her baby went off in rush hour traffic when she was stuck in traffic. I can't remember how long it was until she could get to a place where she could "comfort" it but she said it was challenging listening to the cry for that long period of time. However, it didn't stop her to have three children of her own (in her mid 20s though, happily married :)

  10. This is good stuff. I've always thought it should be harder to get married too, it is to easy to get a divorce.

    1. I couldn't agree with you more. Maybe if the marriage license cost as much as a divorce does??

    1. LOL....Darian didn't get as good a grade with this experience as he hoped. And it was much harder than he expected. Maybe it will be a lifelong remembrance that 'babies are hard'.
