Meet Harls Barkley

We are already past the half-way point of June. I am busy getting two teens ready for a church Mission trip to Chicago.Yikes! Scary to let them go for a week to such a huge city. But they will be doing God's work.

Now for today's #30summerdays challenge. The prompt is:

Got a pet? Share them with the world!

We do not have pets at our house. The last thing I need is a dog or a cat to get tangled up in my feet as I am transferring a man who cannot bear any weight on his feet. So here is a picture of our pet:

Harls Barkley
(inside that log is also a plecostomus)

  2. A mission trip--as in door-to-door proselytizing? Please, tell me more.

    1. No Snow! They are going to help a church do a landscaping project; helping the Salvation Army serve meals to homeless; help out at a food pantry; help throw a neighborhood party for underprivileged kids and doing some urban clean-up work around the city. They will also get to do some sight seeing. They don't expect the kids to do any kind of trying to convert people to their religious faith. I am very proud of the mission work that my grandkids have been involved in. Last year they helped clean up from the Moore, Oklahoma tornado.

  4. I too want to know what a plecostomus is, but it looks like a great pet for you all! I think the mission trip will go well; I know the chaperones will keep an eye on them and as long as they follow what is told to them, I'm sure all will be safe.

    what a great experience!

  5. Believe me, there are times (LOTS of times) I wish we'd adopted a 'Harls' vs. two puppies!
I understand your trepidation about Darian and Harley going to Chicago. My granddaughter's senior class elected to "do" New York City a couple of years ago ... it might as well have been Bagdad! I've a hunch your two have pretty level heads about them, and may well serve as a great example for the others.

PS - Is there a story behind Harls' name? (Or, am I being hopelessly naïve and missing something obvious? LOL!)

    1. My granddaughter's name is Harley and her uncle calls her Harls Barkley...so that is what she named the fish!

  6. Love the name - have to know who picked it! We love us some Sir Charles around our house. Many years living in Phoenix and cheering for him when he was a Sun. What the heck is a plecostomus? The world needs to know!

    1. This will be Darian's third trip and Harley's second. It is good for them to see that there are people out there who don't have life as good as they do...
